Born Rolihlahla Mandela, Nelson Mandela was born on July 18th, 1918. He was born in Mvezo, South Africa. His parents Nonqaphi Nosekeni and Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela, his father was the Acting King of the Thembu people. Elected president of the ANCYL
The African National Congress (ANC) was first established in 1912 as the Republic of South Africa's governing social democratic political party. Nelson Mandela began attending the ANC meetings informaly in 1942 and in 1944 he co-founds the ANC Youth League. Just 7 years after the formation of the ANCYL Mandela was elected president. Begining on November 1st 1955 the Vietnam War broke out between Northern Vietnam and Southern Vietnam during this war the United States was Southern Vietnams ally. Arrested and on trial for treason
On December 5th 1956 Nelson Mandela and 155 others were arrested for treason. In 1961 all of the defendents had been acquitted. This is an important event because during these 5 years tension grew in the ANC. (Nelsonmandela.org, History.com) -

On March 21st 1960 Afrikaner police open fire on unarmed black South African demonstrators. The Sharpeville Massacre ended in the death of 69 people and 180 wounded. This is important in history because it is an effect of the segregrated government . (History.com) -
Arrested near Howick in KwaZuluNatal
The Apartheid soon took notice of Mandelas participation in the ANC and had him arrested for it. While being arrested Nelson Mandela did not fight back or resist arrest he accepted it graciously. Released from prison
After being in prison for 27 years because of his resistence against the Apartheid Nelson Mandela was released on Febuary 11th 1990. Recieves Nobel Peace Prize
Nelson Mandela along side of FW de Klerk accepted the Nobel Peace Prize. These two fine men were given this prestigious award for their work towards the termination of the apartheid regime. Elected by Parliament as South Africas first black president
After the end of the Apartheid and the establishment of a multiracial government Nelson Mandela was elected president by the 22 million South Africans who voted. Steps down after one term as president
On July 7, 1996 Nelson Mandela announced that he would not be serving a second term as president. Mandela made his decision to step down after he knew he knew he had laid the fondation for a better future. On September 11th 2001, The World Trade Centers in New York City were hit by two planes. This terrosist attack also hit just outside the Pentagon in Washington D.C and a field in Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people were killed in these attacks and sent the U.S. into a fury. (History.com) -
Death
The death of Nelson Mandela wasnt just wasnt just an important moment in him and his familys world but an important moment in the rest of the world too. Nelson Mandela will always be remembered for his courage and will to do anything as long as the people of South Africa were free. Nelson Mandela once said "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear."
