Nelson Mandela was born on July 18,1918 in Mvezo, Transkei. He was born intothe royal family of Xhosa-speakind Thembu tribe. His father Gadla Henry Mphakanyiswa who served as a chief for the tribe.(Meer 2) -

Fort Hare was the elite school for the black africans. He studied english, anthroplogy and polotics he also did sports doing great in boxing and long distance running. He was expelled in 1940 for his involment in a student protest. ( Meer 38) -
Roger Bannister breaks 4 minute mile
On May 6, 1954 at Oxford University , Roger Bannister became the first person to ever break the four-minute mile , which was considered to be an impossible feat back then. Now, the four-minute has been broken by many athletes. It is now the standard of all professional distance runners.( Berman 65) -
ANC is banned
In 1960 the ANC( african national congess) was banned because the goverment clamied this was a communist document. Also they banned the ANC after the Sharpeville Massacre. Many members were aressted by the police. Many faced long sentences in jail like Mandela.(Mandela 97) -
Wilt Camberlain 100 point game

Mandela was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2001. He got gradiotherapy treatment for prostate cancer and told reporters the following year that he had been given a clean bill of health against the disease. ( Mandela 250) -

Nelson Mandela received a visit at his office today from the World Cup Local Organising Committee who brought with them the official FIFA World Cup Trophy. Mandela was very excited to see this trophy and was happy the world cup was being played in South Africa.

Mandela's Death
Nelson Mandela died on September 5, 2013. South Africa's first black president died in the company of his family at home in Johannesburg after years of declining health that had caused him to withdraw from public life. Mandela was fing multiple sickness in he final months of his life he lived to be 95. (Bourgoin 186)
