Socialization Timeline

  • Agent of Socialization: Family

When I was 3, my brother was born. This was the first time I got to interact with someone close to my age. This influenced me because I learned how to be helpful and more independent and that the attention had to be shared.
  • Agent of Socialization: School

When I was 4 I started preschool. I was used to being at home and getting all of the help and attention I wanted, but now that I started school I had to learn how to interact with my teachers and peers to get the things I wanted. It also taught me how to make friends and how to interact with people who were not part of my family.
  • Agent of Socialization: School

I started dancing when I was 4 because I needed a social activity to get me active and to interact with other people. It influenced me because I was having fun while also learning something I was interested in. It helped me learn how to pay attention closely because I had to apply what I was learning.
  • Agent of Socialization: School

When I was 10 I started middle school. It was a big change from elementary school because I had to switch classes and there were many new people I had to meet. It helped me learn how to make friends and how to be much more independent because I was now responsible for multiple classes and the work that they gave me.
  • Agent of Socialization: Media

When I was 11 I got my first phone. It taught me how to be responsible and take care of my personal items. It also taught me how to be smart online and to be independent and to make smart decisions.
  • Agent of Socialization: Workplace

When I was 15 I got a job because I wanted to make money to actually go places with my friends and to have money for gas when I got a car. It taught me how to work with others and how to interact with strangers. It also helped me develop a strong work ethic and learn how to do things correctly that someone asked me to do.
