    Invasion of Venezuela
    Bolivar invaded his home country of Venezuela on May 14, 1813. The Venezuelan Second Republic was formed. He was forced to flee to Jamaica after civil war broke out. While in Jamaica he envisioned the future of South America in written words. This event is significant because it was the start of Bolivar's liberation of South America.   • Crossing the Andes

    Crossing the Andes
    On August 7, 1819 Simon Bolivar and his army defeated the Spanish general Jose Maria Barreiro near the Boyacá River. Even though he crossed the Andes, Bolivar was still able to recruit new solders and win a battle. About 2,000 men died through the Andes.     Battle of Carabobo
    The remaining Spanish forces in New Granada and Venezuela were defeated. On June 24, 1821 Bolivar won the Battle of Carabobo in Venezuela against the royalist forces.
