    Revolution in Hait

    The Haitian Revolution was a revolt of slaves against their French masters on August 1719 because of their ideas of enlightenment, led by Toussaint L'Ouverture. Toussaint took control of the island by 1801 and freed all of the slaves. But by 1802, French troops came into Haiti to take Toussaint's power. He agreed to stop the revolution if the slaves were freed; the French imprisoned him and he died on April 1803. His lieutenant, Jacques took control and on January 1804 Haitians were independent.

    Brazil's Liberator

    In 1807, Napoleon invaded Spain and Portugal, he wanted to close the ports to Brittish shipping. So the royal family boarded ships to Brazil, to escape capture. Rio de Janiero became the capital of the portuguese empire. After Napolean got defeated, KIng Johnson and his government went back to Portugal but his son Dom Pedro, stayed in Brazil. In 1822, Brazlians demanded their independence,8,000 signed a petition asking Dom Pedro to rule and on September 7, 1822 he delecared Brazil independent.

    Mexico's Independence

    In 1810, Miguel Hidalgo, a priest who believed in enlightenment, gathered all the peasants to revolt against the Spanish. They were defeated by 1811. Then another leader came around for the rebels, Jose Maria Mordos, they revolted for 4 years but were defeated by a creole officee, Iturbide. But in 1820, Spain put a liberal group in charge of Maexico and Creoles were afraid of loosing their privaleges, so the creoles got together to get Mexico's independece and Iturbide proclaimed it on 1821.

    San Martin Leads Southern Liberation Forces

    Argentina declared it's independence from Spain in 1816, but Spanish forces in Chile and Peru were still threats. So in 1817, San Martin led an army across the Andes to the Chile. There he met Bernando O'Hoggins, from Peru, with his help San Martin freed Chile. Then in 1821, San Martin wanted to also get the Spanish out of Peru. He joined forces with Bolivar and defeated the Spanish in the Battle of Ayecuchu in 1824.

    Simon Bolivrar's Victory

    Simon Bolivar was from Venezuela, they had their independence from Spain in 1811, but they were still struggling with independence. Bolivar got defeated multiple times. Until, August 1819, Bolivar led 2,000 soldiers through the Andes into Colombia. The Spanish Army was there; he took them by surprise and defeated them. By 1821, Bolivar had won Venezuela’s independence.
