In 1603 Samuel de Champlain took his firt voyage to Canada. -
Sieur de Monts
In 1604, King Henry IV appointed Sieur de Monts with a monopoly over the fur trade in Canada. De Monts was required to bring 60 new settlers to Canada every year for 10 years. Camplain because the captin of De Monts ship. -
The French Settler
In 1606 two men established a French settler at Stadacona. This was to be a permanent fur trading post. -

Champlain still wanted to find he passage to china he belieived that the St.Lawrence River wold lead him there. -
Great Lakes
Champlain made his way as far west as the Great Lakes. He always carried his compass. -
Quebec
Champlain returned to the colony of France and became governor. He brought his wife Helene, to Quebec with him.
