    Highland teachers learn best through face to face training followed by coaching, modeling, and constructive feedback.
  • Step 1-Building the Knowledge Base

    Step 1-Building the Knowledge Base
    During a staff meeting, we will explore the AVID WICOR strategy INQUIRY in depth. Teachers will be taught how to use a 2.0 Web Tool to collaboratively discuss and respond to a question. Teachers will collaborate and decide upon a future opportunity (within 3 weeks) to integrate this model into their classroom instruction and practice. Coaching will be provided as needed.

    Step 2-Sharing Learning ad Learning Together
    Teams will meet during a team meeting to share the inquiry process and outcomes. Teachers will share the Web 2.0 tool used along with student exemplars/notes. The staff development specialist will provide support as needed to teams.

    The staff development specialist will meet with teachers to determine progress, questions, and/or team needs.
    The Principal and Assistant Principal will look for evidence of implementation in classrooms and provide feedback.
    Teachers will be surveyed to determine success, questions, or needed modifications.

    Step 4-Inquiry Process/Going Deeper
    Each team will select a different Web 2.0 tool. Teachers will plan and implement an integrated technology lesson focused on inquiry. The staff development specialist will support each team and teachers will be provided time to observe each other during instruction and collaborate regarding student learning outcomes.
  • Step 5- Collaborative Share and Learn!

    Step 5- Collaborative Share and Learn!
    With the support of administration and the staff development specialist, each team prepares a 15 minute presentation regarding the Web 2.0 tool chosen to engage students in inquiry. Teachers present this learning including learning outcomes over the course of 2 staff meetings resulting in every teacher learning about 6 different tools for integrating inquiry into student learning.

    Step 6-Celebrate Learning-Adults and Students
    Teachers will plan opportunities for students to share their learning outcomes with other students. Classrooms will buddy up and students will collaborate and share their learning process and inquiry outcomes.
