Jean Talon Comes to New France
The king gave him the task of populating the colony, so he would take anyone that wasn’t a protestant or a Huguenot. He brought in people in prisons that committed petty crimes, orphan girls from France who were quickly married off (Filles du Roy). He also implemented birth incentives to people based on the number of kids they had and taxed them if they did not marry by a certain age. -
Soldiers Settle in New France
1200 soldiers were sent by the King to contain the Iroquois at this time and after the three years they calmed the Iroquois and were offered money and land to stay. Approximately 600 soldiers stayed. -
Slavery is Legalized in New France
Intendant Raudot legalizes slavery in New France, during this time slavery was also in use in other colonies such as the Thirteen Colonies. -
French Canadians Immigrate to America
The exodus of the French-Canadians to the United States was because of the harvests were damaged or destroyed by disease or bad weather. There was not enough land that could be used to cultivate so they got jobs in the United States as factory workers, craftsmen or farmers. -

Canada and Quebec Agree to Share Immigration Responsibilities
Quebec and Canada share the responsibilities but in addition Quebec adds a new criteria. immigrants were selected based on how they could adapt to a francophone society.
