Period 7 Timeline

  • Open Door Policy

    It was a conecept in which all nations had equal trading rights in China. This was important because it led to a rise in anger Chinese nationalists, and later led to the Japanese violating it and causing tention with the U.S.
  • Square Deal

    It was a grant to miners for a 10% wage increase and 9 hour work days. This special commission was important because it appeased the business and labor disputes.
  • Niagra Movement

    It was a meeting of black intellectuals, such as W.E.B Du Bois in Niagra Falls. They met to discuss a program to protect and keep equal rights for African Americans. It was important because it led to the creation of the NAACP, which strived for equal educational opportunites and the abolition of segregation.
  • World War 1

    It was a war between allied powers and central powers. It started because of the assassination of Francis Ferdinand, nationalism, imperialism, and militarism. The U.S. troops were shipped overseas and they used a convoy system to ensure that Britain wouln't be starved into submission. By 1918, the Germans surrendered. It ended with peace treaties by Woodrwo Wilson.
  • National Women's Party

    It was a party created by Alice Paul after breaking away from NAWSA. The organized pickets and parades, and had hunger strikes in order to gain the right for women to vote. It was important because women had a lot dedication for this movement, and later the 19th Amendment was passed.
  • Zimmermann Telegram

    It was a telegram sent by German, Arthur Zimmermann to propose Mexico as an alli to them in order to attack the U.S. in exchange for Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona back to Mexico. It was important because it made American nationalists angry and convinced president Wilson that Germany wanted war with the U.S.
  • Espionage and Sedition Acts

    The Espionage Act gave 20 years of prison time to people who tried to rebel in the armed forces or change the draft opperation. The Sedition Act prohibited disloyal or abusive comments about the U.S. government. These were important because it was a risk by socialists and pacifists to critisize government war policy.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    It was a peace treaty that made Germany admit guilt for the war, accept French occupation, pay money to repair Britain and France, grant Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, and Poland their independence, and signers agree to the League of Nations. It was important because it made Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Russia to agree to peace terms after the First World War.
  • League of Nations

    It was an international peacekeeping organization for those who signed the Treaty of Versailles. It was important because it called members to protect independence and territorial integrity of other nations.
  • Prohibition (Volstead Acts)

    It was a Federal Law strictly enforcing the prohibition of the manufacture and sale of alcohilic beverages during the war to maintain a stable workforce. It was important because it led to increased crime, gangsters, speakeasies, and bootleg trade.
  • Jazz Age

    It was an age where the youth rebelled against their elders culture with Jazz music. It was brought by African American musicians to symbolize a new and modern culture. It was important because it led to the invention of the radio and the movie industry.
  • Black Tuesday

    It was a day in which the stock market crashed and investors odered their brokers to sell these. It was important because it caused economic turmoil and was a part in causing the Great Depression.
  • The Great Depression

    It was an economic collapse. It caused 25% of the U.S. population to be unemployed. The economy was shrinking because people lost their jobs and homes, and good weren't being produced so people could buy the goods. It was important because it was a collapse of capitalism, laissez-fair, belief as a country, and democracy. 1929-1941
  • Harlem Renaissance

    It was a period that concentrated on talented actors , artists, musicians, and writers from the African American community in the Harlem section of New York City. It was important because during this time period, Jazz and other achievements helped to embrace Afican American pride and talent.
  • World War 2

    It was a war between the Axis Powers and the Soviet Union. It started because of Hilter committing small acts of agression and expansion in Poland. In the end, it caused an increase in factory jobs, the attraction of jobs by African Americans, and the allowance of women to serve in the army, navy, and marines. 1939-1945
