Newton's Picture Is Taken
Scott was in Camp Prenfits at the time that he had his picture taken for the first time. Back then during the times of the Civil War only really rich people had their pictures taken. Scott was one of the lucky men to get his picture taken. The Battle Of Helena
The Battle of Helena was one of the tons of battles in the Civil War, Newton Scott took part in this one. It took place in Helena, Arkansas where hundreds were counted dead. The battle was another atempt from the confederacy to relive pressure from Vicksburg, but failed. Newton Moves From Little Rock To Texas
After Newton and other thousands of troops in the union defeated Little Rock in the Battle of Arkansas they decided to move to Texas. David. O. Dodd's Death
Dodd was a spy for the confederacy, he was caught by Union soldiers one of them was Newton Scott. He was taken to court the next day and sentenced to death by hanging. Newton Loses Friend Due to Illness
Sickness in the civil war was definitely not uncommon. Soldiers died all the time due to common diseases like diarrhea/dysentery, typhoid, and others. The Darkie Shantys
Newton and troops found shelter in little huts called shantys. They were quite large. Each large enough to sleep and hold two men. Newton bunked with a man named Albert Grimes. It was a large and more comfortable step up from a tent. Constructing the Barracks in St. Charles

The war ended four years later after Robert E. Lee surrendered the last Confederate Army they had. And the last battle was fought on Palmito Ranch, Texas on May 13, 1865. Newtons Final Promotion
Newton was promoted 5 separate times throughout the war. From 8th Corporal to 7th all the way down to 3rd. Newton Comes Home
Even after the war was over soldiers still has to wait at their camps and couldn't go home for months, Scott finally got to go home and wrote a letter to his parents telling them he would be home in three to four days. He and other men boarded a boat and left.
