Exposition 1 Background
The Starker family attracts lightning. Newton and his great-grandmother are the only living Starkers left because all the rest were killed by lightning. Newton's mother forgot to check the weather one day before going outside and was struck by lightning and killed. So, Newton has been enrolled on an academy for survival. -
Exposition 2 Setting
Newton goes to Jerry Potts Academy Of Higher Learning and Survival in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on August 25, 2000. This is an academy for survival which will help him be safe around lightning. -
Exposition 3 Characters
1) Newton Starker is a fourteen-year-old boy with a family curse that attracts lightning. He is very cautious especially when it comes to the weather.
2) Enid Starker is Newton's 102 year old great-grandmother. She says the reason she has lived so long is spite. She lives in the Welakwa Home for the Elderly.
3) Jacob Clarke is a Newton's friend. He is a poet and helps Newton with some of his problems.
4) Mr. MacBain is the director of the academy that Newton goes to. -
Exposition 4 Conflict
Newton attracts lightning and will most likely die from getting struck by lightning. -
Rising Action 2
Newton is about to recite a Robbie Burns poem when a rock hits his kilt causing it to fall. Newton thinks that Violet did it but really Mr. MacBain did it to teach a lesson on properly doing your kilt. -
Rising Action 3
Newton starts reading a journal from Andrew Starker to find out more about his family's strange attraction to lighting. He realizes that this attraction has been going on for aeons and feels a slimmer of hope since Andrew survived his first strike. -
Rising Action 5
Newton goes to pick up his order for his assignment. Instead of receiving lots of truffles, he got a small bag of truffles and a pig that he names Josephine. -
Rising Acton 4
Newton and Violet into a fight and he gets knocked out when his head hit the radiator. Violet calls the nurse and brings him a rose. -
Rising Action 6
Newton goes to see his great grandmother Enid. She tells him her secret to staying alive is spite. She is proud of staying alive longer than everyone who made fun of her. She hates everyone and she says she hates Newton too. -
Climax/ Turning Point
While Newton is visiting Enid, she is struck by lightning leaving him the last Starker on the planet. She wanted him to roll her chair out to the veranda when out of the blue, lightning struck her as she pushed Newton out of the way of the lightning bolt. -
Falling Action 1
Newton gets ready for the expedition. He takes the pig and ignores Jacob when he calls him so he leaves by himself. Newton makes Josephine lead him to the talisman and arrives at the same time as Violet. He reaches the talisman which was a cell-phone first and leaves Violet even though she says she may have broken her leg. -
Falling Action 2
Newton hears a thunderstorm coming and decides to go back for Violet. She is happy that Newton came back for her so she kisses him on the check. Newton pushes Violet out of the way right as a lightning bolt strikes him on the top of his head. Right before he would die, Josephine lays her head on Newton's foot sending the shock out of Newton and out through her. -
Falling Action 3
Newton was knocked out and brought to a hospital. His dad comes to see him. Newton thinks Josephine is dead but Jacob walks in with her in his arms. Newton notices the burnt spot on top of her head where she received the shock and smiles. -
Resolution 1
Newton and Violet become friends and he talks with Jacob about how they did on the expedition. Jacob explains that he was trying to tell Newton that you will find the talisman faster if you work together. -
Resolution 2
After Newton heals, his dad takes him home. There he will be safe because their house is a storm proof dome which is also thunderstorm proof.
