Overhead projector
This is/was kind of the staple in the classroom from basically when I was in school until I started teaching in the mid-2000s. It was a great tool to get information out to everyone at the same time. A tool that I use a lot now is a projection camera which is really nothing more that a overhead projector. -
Smartboard
Smartboards have made my life in the classroom easier:
-simplifies Interaction and ease of sharing
-Lots of online tools
-saves paper and better for environment
-easier to communicate with a large group -
Bic Tablet
This was a unique experience. I was one of several classrooms in IL to pilot this program. The Bic pen company was trying to break into the tablet market in the United States and needed classrooms to test their product and provide feedback to the company. The technology did not work the same as an iPad (no apps). It was more like an interactive notebook. I've included the only English YouTube video I could find describing what it does. Ipad
I've never had access to tablets for each of my students but using the technology to collect and organize reading data on an iPad has been extremely helpful. Apps such as Running Record Calculator -
Dojo
I started using this app for classroom management. It has turned into a way for me to post student work and communicate with parents. When I started my career, this type of tool is not something I ever thought I see or use. Today, I don't go a day without it. -
Google
Google changed the way I plan and save material for my classroom. I feel so much more connected to the classroom whereever I am because of Google and their Drive. -
Netbooks
Netbooks have proved to be a better tool than I anticipated. In second grade they are very useful during math and reading workshop and are starting to be a great research tool for Wonder Workshop (modified genius hour). -
Plickers
Great app for student engagement. It's also a great way to do formative assessments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfUB05xiIGM
