Herriott is telling his stories of being Mr. Farnon's assistan and he is teeling of how hi different clients can be crazy and how it is a very good job to have. Mr. Farnon is a good "boss" and James Herriott is having a good time as the assistant. Pages 50-166 -

In the last section of the the book, Herriott tells of all the many adventures he has as the assistant for Dr. Siefried Farnon. His job becomes a perminent one. Herriott loves what he does even though there are many troubles he must go through. He knows that a country veternarian is much more different than a city one.
