The revolution started because the Haitians were inspired from the success of the American Revolution, which lead them to revolting as well. Not only that, but the African slaves outnumbered the europeans even though the Europeans oppressed them. This gave Toussaint L'Ovouture and Jean-Jaques Dessalines confidence to lead this revolution. -

The Haitians fought against France. The revolution ended because Toussaint and Dessalines fought hard and the revolution was successful because Dessalines declared Haiti a free country on January 1st, of 1804. -

The revolution started because Napoleon closed the ports of other countries to british shipping. Prince John (later King John VI) and the royal family boarded ships to escape capture. The creoles were the individuals that led the revolution. The leaders of this revolution were King John and mostly Dom Pedro. -

They fought against Portugal. The revolution ended because it was a bloodless revolution and Brazil's independence was declared on the same day of the start of the revolution. This is how we know it was successful. -

South America fought against spain. The revolution ended because Bolivar's army went on to defeat the Spaniards on December 9th, 1824. The spanish colonies in Latin America also won their freedom.
