Revolutions begin in Spain and South America
During these revolutions groups called "Juntas" were created. These groups were a temporary patriotic institiution created to govern Spain while their king remained as a French prisoner of war. Junta was a new political power and took control of many areas while the king was away. -
Brazil gains independance
The king of Portugual was in many wars. He left his son in charge of Brazil. The Brazilian people were reevaluating their decisions and in 1822 the son of the king gave Brazil their independance. -
Brazil signs treaty with Britain
Brazil only signs the treaty with Britain to end slavery. Even though the treaty was signed illegal trade still went on. The picture of this military man is the guy that set up the treaty. -
Illegal slave trade in Brazil suppressed
Brazil's elite political powers opposed the treaty for two decades and finally gave in due to the economy. There leader could not keep up to his fathers standards. He eventually fell in the end. -

British build multiple railroads
The British wanted these railroads built to make transportation of materials and goods faster. They used slaves to build these railroads. Once all the railroads were built and all the industrial things were done they had no use for the slaves anymore. -
Abolition of slavery in Brazil
The army got fed up with listening to commands to caputure slaves. They did not want to even try it was a waste of time. Legislation adeventually abolished slavery in 1888. -
Cubans revolt against Spanish rule
Cuba wanted there independance from Spain. They formed alliances with other countries. They went into war in 1895 for their independance. -
Spanish American war
America went quickly into war with the spanish. They overcame spanish forces in the Philippines and Cuba. They originally did not intend to get the Philippines in the first place. -
America controlled the Philippines, Puerto Rico and Guam
These countries were main parts to America. It helped with trade and spread there global power a little farther. This picture shows the Americans taking over.
