    John Legend created the Show me Campaign in 2007. The goal of the Show Me campaign is to provide children access to education. This event influenced his advocacy because he wanted to break down those barriers that were preventing children to have access to great quality education. In today’s world, education allows children to not allow their circumstances to define them and provides the opportunity to become successful.
  • Teach for All

    John is an active member of the Teach for all organization. According to their website, Each partner recruits and develops future leaders that later would teach in their nations’ schools and communities (Teach for All, 2020). This is influential because its allowing people in their communities to learn and develop their leadership skills. John is big on creating the next generation of leaders and this aligns with his advocacy.
  • LRNG

    According to the website, the movement mainly focuses on inspiring innovation during the learning process that reflects on today’s world (Show Me Campaign, 2020). This event was influential because it allows educators to modify education in ways that work for students in current times. An example is using memes or songs for educational purposes. There have been teachers who have used songs made remixes to help students have fun while learning.
  • #FreeAmerica

    FreeAmerica is a 5-year campaign to help reduce mass incarceration rates and reverse the school to prison pipeline in the United States. According to the website, 1 in 3 African American men & 1 in 18 African American women will serve time in prison during their life. This influenced his advocacy is because this could be experienced by someone he knows personally and may have had a personal experience. Sadly, this is common amongst black families and other minoritized communities.
