    Fugitive Slave Act-1850 The fugitive slave act was a group of laws passed that required that any runaway slave that was captured had to be returned to his or her owner. This law was set for the Northern free states as well so it made it harder for slaves to be free.

    The Nebraska-Kansas Act was a bill that allowed settlers to chose whether or not they would allow slavery inside of their states borders. Kansas and Nebraska were new states that had not yet decided whether they would allow slavery in them. It was kind of decieded that Kansas would be a Southern State and Nebraska would be a Northern State but this caused an uproar.

    The Election of 1860 was the presidential election in which Abraham Lincoln was elected president. He had only 40% of the electoral votes but was elected president because the other 60% was spread between the other 3 candidates but none of the others recieved 40%.

    The Battle of Fort Sumter was the first battle in the Civil War. Major Robert Anderson and his force of 85 soldiers were in Fort Sumter for safety on April 12th the Confederates attacked. The Union was overwhelmed and surrendered the Fort. They got to leave but lost the battle none of the soldiers were killed until at their release because of an accidental explosion.

    The Battle of the Monitor and the Merricmack was the first major naval battle of 2 ironclad naval ships. In the battle the pilotbox was hit and when it was hit it got iron splinters in the captains eyes. So the Merrimack believing the battle was over left and went back to its harbor slightly damaged.

It was a document saying that all slaves were freed signed by Abraham Lincoln. It was originally intended mostly for the war making the slaves not have to work for the Southerners helping them with the war but all together it freed most if not all of the slaves in the US.
