Became a member of electrical engineering faculty at MIT.

created one of the first interactive time-shared computer systems

He designed an extensive set of hardware alterations to MIT’s PDP-1 to create one of the first interactive time-shared computer systems

became one of the founding members of the Multics project

1964

Multics project was an early timesharing operating system, to which he contributed several key concepts.

Became a full professor at MIT.

Won Eckert-Mauchly Award

1984

He won the award for contributions to the field of computer architecture, and becoming a Fellow of the IEEE and of the ACM.

Retired from MIT

1987

Started working as an independent consultant and research scientist

1987

worked on projects related with parallel computer hardware and software.

Worked with the NASA Research Institute for Advanced Computer Science

1988

He worked there as Visiting Scientist.

Became a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE)
