Given the title Mahatma
They refer to Gandhi for the first time as Mahatma which means "Great Soul" and is given by the Hindus to the holiest man.Gandhi doesn't like it because he thinks all souls are equal. -

Gandhi becomes a hero to the Indians because he stood up to the government in South Africa.He publishes the Declaration of Independence of India. -

Rowlatt Acts
British passed the Rowlatt Acts. Gandhi and others did not like this one bit. These laws allowed the government to jail protesters without trial for as long as two years. To protest the Hindus and Muslims flocked in Amritsar, a major city in Punjab. -
Armistar Massacre
Incident were British troops fired on a crowd of unarmed Indian protestors, they killed1000 Indians. -
Congress Party
The congress party endorsed civil disobedience. Gandhi then launched his campaign of civil disobedience to weaken the British government authority and economic power towards India. -
Salt March
Gandhi organized a demonstration to show their hatred towards the Salt Acts. According to British laws, Indians could buy salt from no other source but the government. They also had to pay sales tax on salt. To show their anger, Gandhi and his followers walked about 240 miles to the seacoast. -
Government of India Act
British Parliament passed the Governmet of India Act. It provided local self government and limited democratic elections, but not total independence. -
Partition of India
The partition of India was set forth in the Indian Independece Act and it resulted that they gained Independece from the British Raj. The northern parts of India (Muslim section) became Pakistan while the Southern part (Hindu section) became India. -
Gandhi Dies
Gandhi was assasinated by getting shot by Nathuram Godse.
