Arriving at Ellis Island
Hi I'm Bridgete O'Ryan and I'm so happy that I have finially made it to America. I just know that it will be so much better than Ireland. Inside there was long lines and it took forever to make it through. Even though I am 18 they were asking me where my perants were and if I was meeting anyone. I told Them I was meeting my older brother, just hope he rembers to be there! cant wait to see America -
Getting a job
After moving in with my brother at his place I finially got a job as a clothing factory. they must have been really desperate becuase when I asked they just said that I could have the job. I was suprise to also have a job in such a litttle time. When I was asking around there were a lot of people that had been unemployed for a long time. -
Get fierd
I was fierd! fierd from my job. I was doing great, just living with my brother when all of a sudden they just decide to fire me becasue of the discrimination against the Irish. my brother would have been fierd to but he is the hardest worker there and they couldn't afford to continue without him there. Quess Io will have to live of what my brother makes untill I can find a new job. -
Brother leaves
My brother Joseph is finially getting married. I am so happy for him but the bad thing is he is moving out. I still haven't been able to get a job around here and since I was living off of my brothers ernings I won't be able to pay the rent. I guess I'll have to look even faster now. -
Leave for free land in the West
There are no jobs in the area that I have found. Whe can't the Irish just be liked? Anyway I have decided to leave and go west. I have heard that there is free land and they are just giving it away. This sounds like a great oppertunity. I will have to borrow some money from my brother but he will be fine with it. -
Arrive at the Land Rush
I have arrived a little bit earlier than I planned but there are already people here. I have found a job babysitting three kids which isint as easy as it sounds. I have bought a tent and so I have somewhere to live. All in all life is a lot better and there are a lot more oppertunities then in New York. -
Meet Johnny
Today I met the most amazing man, He arrived a couple of weeks ago and is the most polite, generase, and kindest person that you will ever know. I love meeting him and he takes me on rides on nhis horse out ot a beautiful meddow. He is my dream man. -
Marry Johnny
He finiallhy asked me! he finially didid it! He asked me if I wanted to marry him and of cource there was only one answer that I could say. Yes. I have moved in with him and sold my test. He bought me a horse so we could ride together to get the free land. In a couple of days he will go with me to look for some land. Oh im so exsited. I wish my brother would answer the messages that I send him. Maybe the mail is just really slow or the reply is on the way. Oh I can't wait! -
We run for the free land
We found the perfectg place to have our land. It is only a few miles out and there is a beautiful forest with a stream running through it and a great field so if we have animals. When we ran I thought that there was going to be some people that beat us but there horse was shot and so we got past them just in time to claim the land. I was so happy, I know we are going to live a great life here. -
Write to brother
It was wierd for a little but that my brother wasn't replying. At first I thought that it was only that he wasn't getting the letter. Then I thought that he was just to busy becuase he has become rich. Then I got a letter from his wife sating that he had been dead a while and that all of the money had gone to here which was a little suspicius to me since I got nothing. Anyway I am grieving over his death but know that my life will be well lived,
