John Cabot
John Cabot was an explorer and a navigator. Cabot claimed a plot of land in Canada, looking for a second route to Asia, because he wanted to buy spices there. He had no idea where he was. Jacques Cartier
Jacques Cartier was a navigator. He was sent by King Francis I, to search for a new route to Asia, and to find riches. He discovered the St. Lawrence. His discovery of the new route allowed other explorers to enter Canada. Resource: Bio.com -
Samuel De Champlain
Samuel De Champlain began exploring North America in 1603. When they set out for an expedition up the St. Lawrence, they set up a fort in current day Quebec City. He also mapped the Atlantic coast, and the Great Lakes. He was then named lieutenant to De Monts. Resource: Bio.com -
Filles Du Roi
The Filles Du Roi, were single and orphaned woman. King Louis 3rd sent them over to live in New France. They married, and populated the colony with children. The Filles Du Roi's descendants are called the Metis. Resources: Notes -
Fur Trade
The Fur Traders were French explorers, who came from New France, to legally trade for Beaver pelts with the First Nations. In 1663, the Hudson Bay Company ran the Fur Trade legally, but, there were people who traded illegally. They were called the Coureur Des Bois, or The Runners Of The Woods. Throughout time, the Runners Of The Woods increased in number. King Louis 14th, then placed a law, that banned the Coureur Des Bois. Resources: Notes -
Expulsion Of The Acadians
The expulsion started during the 7 years war, when the Acadians refused to sign an oath to Britain, that declared their under Britain's control. The British declared that the Acadians should be expelled. The Acadians were expelled to, New Orleans, France, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Prince Edward Island, and other French colonies. Acadia lost all their land. In 1764, the British government made a permit, that Acadians could return to British colonies.

7 Year War
The 7 years war, was the first global war. The 7 years war took place in India, Europe, and America. The war started with France and Britain getting into a rivalry. Then, several other countries joined the war on either side. The war consisted of Great Britain, Prussia, and Hanover, V.S. France, Austria, Sweden, Saxony, Russia. Later, Spain joined on France's side. The Treaty Of Paris, officially ended the 7 years war in 1763. Resources: Canadian Encyclopedia. -
Royal Proclomation
After the 7 years war, the British had control over Acadia and New France. There was over 70,000 Roman Catholics, and Britain needed a way to control them. The Royal Proclamation confined the boundaries of Quebec along the St. Lawrence. The Ohio Valley was given to the First Nations. The Royal Proclamation replaced French Law, which got rid of the Seigneurial system. The French and Americans were angry. -

Quebec Act
The Quebec Act reversed the Royal Proclamation, to make the French and Americans happy. It increased Quebec's territory, which included the Ohio Valley. The Seigneurial System was once again legal, and Catholics could worship. They could also become part of the government. This gave freedom to the French, and they had more rights than most colonies.
