The day that the United States of America declared their independence from the British. The declaration of independence was signed on this day. -

The Louisiana Purchase was made by Thomas Jefferson, the land spread from the Mississippi to the Rocky Mountains. This event is important to us because the US doubled in size and we gained control of the Mississippi. -
The Lewis and Clark Journey West
Lewis and Clark, along with their crew went on a journey west to explore Louisiana and their main two purposes were to find new species and create accurate and updated maps. This is important because they probably protected a lot of people for when they moved west and the US new a lot more about their territory because of them. -
The Battle of Alamo
A battle between Texas and Mexico, Mexican troupes attacked the Texans and they won. This is important because it plays a big role in Texas fighting for their independence, they earned it very soon after the battle. -
The California Gold Rush
This was the date that gold was first found in California. It is important because everyone wanted the gold which made them move west. This helped in populating all parts of what is now America. -
The Pony Express
The pony express was when riders would carry mail all across the country on horseback while trading horses at stations about every ten miles. This was one of the first major ways for people to communicate, so we might not be where we are today if it wasn't for the pony express. -
The Attack on Fort Sumter
On this day the confederates attacked the union base called for Sumter. This is also the day that marks the beginning of the civil war. -
Pearl Harbor
This event is the whole reason that the US joined World War Two. The Japanese attacked an american base and wiped out planes, ships, and even killed 2,000 US soldiers. -
Brown vs. Board of Education
This supreme court case is the reason that schools are the way they are today. African Americans are aloud to go to public schools with no segregation be cause of it. There was a lot of fighting that went on from people that didn't like this idea, but eventually everyone got used to it. -
The Death of Elvis
The "King of rock and roll" died on this date. It is important because he was a major icon to so many people. So, it left a huge effect on some people from the 20th century. -
9/11
Terrorists from the group al-Qaeda hijacked four planes and attacked New York City and Washington D.C.. This attack was the reason that so many US troupes were sent into Iraq and other places over seas. -
