  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    The Declaration of Independence was written and the 13 american colonies officialy broke away from Great Britain. This is important because we declared our Independance from Great Britan and became our own country.
  • The Steamboat

    The steamboat was an important invention in our countries history. It was used to carry more passangers and cargo up and down the mississippi river(McDougal-Littel).
  • Eli Whitney and the Cotton Gin

    This is the day that Eli Whitney invented the Cotton Gin. The purpose for this machine was to seperate cotton from its seeds(McDougal-Littel).
  • The Louisian Purchase

    Thomas Jefferson bought the Lousiana territory on this day from Napoleon for 15 million dollars which is about 3 cents an acre(McDougal-Littel).
  • The Lewis and Clark Journey west

    President Thomas Jefferson asked Lewis and clark to journey west and look for a water route that travels across the country. They were also asked to record any new plant and animal life that they discovered and to make good friends with the Indians(McDougal-Littel).
  • Trail of Tears

    This is when Native Americans were forced to relocate from the southeastern parts of the U.S.(McDougal-Littel).
  • The Texas Revolution

    A military conflict between the government of Mexico and Texas colonists, most of which were land owners form the U.S.(McDougal-Littel,295).
  • The Alamo

    This battle was between the U.S. and Mexico. It was fought over federalism, slavery, and immigration rights. In the end Mexico overcame the U.S.(McDougal-Littel).
  • The Donner Party

    The donner party was a group of people traveling west and they instead of following the main route they took what they thought was a shortcut. They got lost and snow began to fall and after several days they ran out of food. When the first person died they ate them. They turned to cannibalism for their own survival(America:The Story fo US, Westward).
  • The California Gold Rush

    Gold was found in claifornia by James W Marshall and everyone rushed to california to mine for gold(McDougal-Littel).
  • The Mexican American War

    A war that started because of a dispute about whether texas ended at the Nueces River or the Rio Grande(McDougal-Littel).
  • Attack on Fort Sumter

    Attack on Fort Sumter
    Confederate forces around Charleston Harbor, opened fire on the Union garrison holding Fort Sumter. Its important to remember this because it was the star of the American civil war.

    The first lightbulb was invented by Thomas Edison. It is important to remember this event because the light bulb is used almost any where now. We use the lightbulb to light up all of our houses when it gets dark and it is also used in cars to light up the road. We even have lightbulbs in flashlights to help us find things in the dark. This is why the lightbulb is so very important to us.

    The worlds first car was created by Karl Benz on this day. Its important to remember because this invention made a giant impact. Without the invention of the car we would still have to walk to get around.

    In the Brown vs. Board of education case segregation was challenged in schools. This case ended segregation in schools and let blacks and whites go to the same schools. This was important because it equaled the rights of education to both blacks and whites.

    Elvis died from cardiac arrhythmia which was caused by an overdose of perscription drugs. Its important to remember him because he was regarded as one of the cultural icons of the 20th centurey and he was also regarded as the king of music.
