Declaration of Independance
This is when the Declaration of Independance was signed in Philadelpia. This is important because it gave us the freedom from England. -
The Louisiana Purchase
On this day, Thomas Jefferson bought the the Lousiana Purchase from France. It was purchased for only 15 million which comes out to 3 cents per acre. This event is important because it doubles the size of the United States (McDougal-Littell, 346). -
Lewis and Clark Journey West
Thomas Jefferson picked 2 men, Lewis and Clark, to explore the newly bought land. This journey took almost 3 years travel to the Pacific Ocean and back. The Lewis and Clark Journey was very important because accurate maps were made, new species were discovered, and the land was explored (McDougal-Littel, 348-349). -
The Texas Revolution
The Texans were getting tired of Mexico and were ready to rebel. Mexican Troops came into the town of Gozales and tried to capture the Texans' cannon. They were nonsuccessful but this was the beginning of a war with Mexico. This event was important because it started the war that eventually give Texans their independence (McDougal-Littel, 429). -
The Mexican American War
A Mexican unit attacked an American patrol group. Then Polk sent a disturbing message to the Congress. Two days later, Congress declared war with Mexico. This event is important because it started a war that would eventually lead to Mexico giving us more land (McDougal-Littel, 435). -
The Donner Party
The Donner Party decided to take a shorter route that they thought would be a better option. However, the route was worse than the original option. Now they were behind schedule and got caught in a bad winter storm. When they ran out of food they were forced to eat each other. This event is important because it was the first ever recording of human cannibalism (history.com). -
The California Gold Rush
James Matthew discovered gold when he was building a sawmill in northern California. This lead to a migration of people going to California. This event is important because it helped the California's economy grow (McDoungal-Littell, 439-440). -
Attack on Fort Sumter
The Confederate Army started shooting at Fort Sumter and they had no chance. They surrendered after 34 hours of fighting.
This is important because it was were the civil war started. -
Attack on Pearl Harbor
The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. A total of 2,400 Americans were killed and 200 airplanes destroyed. This is important because it was the start of World War 2. -
Brown v. Board of Education Court Case
In this Supreme Court case, they were arguing whether Linda Brown, an African American, had to drive long time to get to school. The court decided that it was still illegal to segregate schools and public places but a year later the court ordered the schools to allow Afican Americans to go to white schools. This is important because we were now closer to elimanating segregation. -
Apollo 11
This day marked the first time that man had walked on the moon.
This waa important because it opened a whole new world for us to discover and explore. -
Dealth of Elvis
Elvis died because of a heart attack and other possible reasons. This is important because a great singer and actor. -

This is the day that I was born. -

On this day, 4 terrorists hijacked 4 different planes. The first 2 planes went into the world trait center. The third plane went into the pentagon and the last plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. The is important because then we as Americans bonded together and became a stronger nation.
