Ghandi Recieves Law Degree

Gandhi easily passes his law examination at Inner Temple Law School in the UK to become a lawyer.

Gandhi's Stay in South Africa

May 13, 1893

Gandhi practices law in South Africa. While on a business trip, he refuses to move from first class to third class and is thrown off of the train.

Natal Indian Congress

Aug 22, 1894

Gandhi founds the Natal Indian Congress to oppose a bill denying Indians the right to vote in South Africa and to help fight other injustices against Indians.

Ending Sexual Activity

Nov 15, 1901

Gandhi ends sexual activity.

Imprisonment

Mar 10, 1922

Gandhi is arrested for sedition.

Elected to Indian National Congress

Jul 17, 1925

Gandhi becomes president of the Indian National Congress.

Declaration of Independence

Gandhi publishes the Declaration of Independence of India.

Salt March

Mar 12, 1930

Gandhi travels 200 miles on foot for 24 days to Dandi to make his own salt. Many others follow. Gandhi is imprisoned for disobeying the Salt Act.

Quit India Campaign

Aug 9, 1942

Gandhi launches the Quit India campaign declaring India's independence from British rule. Gandhi is imprisoned.

Hunger Strike

Nov 15, 1943

Gandhi starts a hunger strike that lasts for 21 days while in prison. Fearful that Gandhi will die in prison, he and other leaders are released.

Fail to Unite Muslims and Hindus

Gandhi is unable to work out an agreement with Muhammad Ali Jinnah that will keep India whole.
