Korean War
The United States entered the Korean War to fight off communism and make sure it didn't spread. China had influenced North Korea to become a communist nation. After this transition the United States had began to interfere in order to help South Korea remain protected against the spread of communism. (Key Concepts 8.1, IB)

Ku Klux Klan
The KKK was created within the south to restore white supremacy. They had conducted hate crimes against mostly African Americans. The federal government had later passed laws that were intended to prosecute crimes committed by the KKK. Today we have laws that prohibit hate speech. This lead to the KKK bombing the NAACP. -
Brown V. Board
The Supreme Court had unanimously ruled that racial segregation within public schools was unconstitutional. It had went against the 14th amendment of the Constitution which doesn't allow the states to deny equal protections of the laws to any person in their jurisdictions. The decision had declared that separate schools for whites and blacks was unequal. (Key Concept 8.2, I B)

Emmett Till
In 1955 Emmett Till was accused of flirting with a white girl. This wrongful accusation led to the lynching of a young 14 year old boy. The death of Emmett Till had fueled rage within the African American community and it helped spark the start of the Civil Rights Movement. (Key Concept 8.2, II)

Vietnam War
The Vietnam War was a war that was being fought between South Vietnam and North Vietnam which were communists. The United States had backed South Vietnam. Both countries didn't want communism to spread so they had fought against North Vietnam to ensure that it wouldn't expand. (Key Concept 8.1, IB)

Little Rock Nine
In Arkansas there was a group of nine African American students who were integrated into a school with only white children. When they were moved into the school the president had sent the national guard to escort the children. This change had been made to test whether the Brown V. Board ruling which declared that segregation in public school was deemed unconstitutional was going to be upheld. (Key Concept 8.2, IA)

JFK Assassination
John F. Kennedy was the youngest president in history. He was driving in a presidential car with his wife Jaqueline, John Connally, and his wife Nellie when he was shot by a sniper. When he was the 35th President of the United States he was assassinated in Texas. This lead to the shift in ideology within political parties. (Key Concept 8.1, IB) -
Hippie Culture
Becoming a hippie was becoming a popular trend because of the Vietnam War. The Hippies wanted to increase freedom and world peace. They enjoyed protesting and trying to change the way that Americans had lived their lives.

The United States was trying to get a man to the moon before the USSR could. It is believed that the space race was won because America had faked the first moon landing so they could claim the title. (Key Concept 8.1, IB)

Watergate Scandal
The Watergate scandal was when there was a break in at the Democratic National Committee offices in the Watergate complex. This break in was controlled by the White House employees. Since the White House was involved President Nixon was forced to resign from office so that he wouldn't be impeached. (Key Concept 8.2, IIIE)

The Creation of Apple
The technology company known as Apple is a large company that was created by Steve Jobs in 1976. This company was featured within the Forrest Gump movie. Apple is now one of the biggest companies in the world. -
The HIV Epidemic
In the 1980's 85% of the people that were affected by the HIV epidemic were people from the ages 20-49. At the start of the epidemic it had mostly affected whites then later on the disease started to be more common among African Americans. This epidemic had scared America because many deaths had occurred.
