Family

That night, I noticed my dad drank a few more beers that usual. He usually drinks every night though, so I was used to it. My dad was yelling at my mom about something and they told me to go take a shower. Twenty minutes later, I came back downstairs and they were still arguing. I was scared to make an appearance, so I remained in my bedroom. I heard doors slamming and my dad shouting, threatening to divorce my mom. He left for the rest of the night.

My "favorite" cousin at the time was my cousin Hailey. She was the only other one in the family that was the same age as me. Her parents got divorced and Hailey and her brother Caden went with their mom. They moved to North Carolina. I now only see them about once a year.

My family friend's visas expired and they were deported. However, they had a daughter who had duel citizenship. To finish her education, she stayed with us. I was nervous at first, but I've always wanted to have a sister. She helped take negative attention from my parents away from me and was always someone to talk to. It made the house less scary. We would watch movies and she would always braid my hair, just like a sister would because that's what she was.

My mother and Gwen, my sister got into an argument over school. Gwen stormed upstairs and I followed her. When I entered her room, she was angrily packing clothes into a suitcase. She told me that she was running away for the night.
"Are you actually going to do it?" I asked.
"Well, I might just chicken out and stay," She responded.
"Just saying, running away is chickening out, not the other way around." And those were the last words I ever said to my sister.

At this time, I was so fortunate to have only met one person in my life that died of cancer. She was my dance studio owner and died when I was in sixth grade. During January 2016, my mother told me that grandma had breast cancer. I was so scared and prayed that she wouldn't meet the same fate as the last. Fortunately, she rang the bell three months ago.

My great grandma was born in England and traveled to America during World War Two. She had been through so much from such a young age. My fondest memories with her, was helping her cook and completing puzzles with her. She recently died and this made me incredible upset, but she was ninety and I'm glad that she isn't currently suffering.
