Norse (Vikings)
The Norse arrived in 1100 AD and explored the arctic in the sixteenth century. They wanted to go to Greenland, but went off course and came to Canada. They arrived in what is now, Newfoundland and Labrador from Norway. They build a settlement in Newfoundland. There they met the Beothuk people.They affected the aboriginals positively because they treated them respectfully.They affected them badly because they started to battle.On the left is a picture of the Norse's ship. -

John Cabot
John Cabot was an Italian navigator and explorer. John Cabot arrived to Canada in 1497. In Canada he found many fish, which made many Europeans come. The British King sent Cabot to explore the Atlantic Ocean, but found North America and Canada. Then he returned to North America for the following years. Cabot's ship was lost and never seen again.

Jacques Cartier
Jacques Cartier[Search Engine](google.ca)Jacques Cartier was a French explorer. Cartier arrived in 1534 to look for a faster route to Asia. When he arrived in Newfoundland and PEI he came across the Mi'kmaq and the Haudensaunee. In PEI he hunted many birds.Cartier explored the Gulf of the St. Lawrence and traded iron items for fur. He took 2 of Donndcona's (Iroqois Chief) sons back to France. -

Jacques Cartier Returns
Cartier returned in 1535 with 3 ships and 110 men. He came to Stadcona (Quebec City) and Hochelaga (Montreal). He took Donnacona and 9 others back to France. Unfortunetly they all died. When Cartier returned many had Scurvy causing many to die.

Jacques Cartier Returns Again
On Cartier's last voyage to Canada he came with 5 ships and 1500 men. He lied about Donnacona's death to the Iroquoians and they became angry. Cartier affected them positively because he traded iron items for fur, but affected them badly because he gave the aborignals scurvy and captured one of the Iroquoian Chief.

Martin Frobisher
Martin FrobisherMartin Frobisher was an English seaman. Martin Frobisher came to Canada on a ship named Gabriell and Michaell in 1576. On his first voyage he discovered the Inuit, but thought they were Asians. He came to Baffin Island. Frobisher was looking for a new route to Asia.In Canada he discovered Frobisher Bay. Frobisher treated the Inuit nicely and gave them food, but capture an Inuit to prove that he found Asians. -

Martin Frobisher Returns
Frobisher returned in the Spring of 1577 on his new ship Ayde. This time he wanted to claim the Arctic in the name of England. Frobisher was not treated well by the Inuit, so he brought 3 Inuit captives back to London.

Martin Frobisher Returns Again
In 1578 Frobisher came to the Arctic and started mining gold. In England they beleived that they struck gold! Then they found out that the gold was just worthless pyrite and Frobisher's reputation was ruined! Frobisher affected the natives positively because he gave the Inuit extra food to eat. He affected them badly because he capture the Inuit.

Samuel De Champlain
Samuel de Champlain was a French navigator, cartographer, draughtsman, soldier, explorer, geographer, ethnologist, diplomat, and chronicler. Champlain first arrived in 1603 from France. He went up the St. Lawrence River to explore. The St. Lawrence was home of the Algonquins and the Iroquoians. Champlain want to search for a Northwest Passage and to settle the Gaspe Peninsula.

Samuel De Champlain Returns
When Champlain returned in 1605. He came back with 80 others and spent the winter in Canada. Unfortunetly half of them died because they were not prepared. In Canada he discovered Nova Scotia and traded metal with the Mi'kmaq. -
Henry Hudson
Henry Hudson Henry Hudson was an English sea explorer and navigator. Henry Hudson first came to Canada in 1607. Hudson explored the Hudson Bay in Canada and the Hudson River in America. Hudson wanted to find a quicker way from Europe to the Far East. Hudson came with his son and 11 others from England on their ship the Hopewell. They past Greenland then to the North Pole. -
Samuel De Champlain Returns Again
The last time Champlain returned was in 1608. He built a fort that is now Quebec City. Samuel De Champlain became friends with the Huron, Algonquin, Montagnais and Etchemin. He and the others gave the aboriginals the deadly disease smallpox, which caused many to die. Champlain affected the natives positively because he traded metal with the Mi'kmaq. He treated them badly because they gave them the smallpox.

Henry Hudson Returns
Henry HudsonIn 1609 Hudson tried again to find the Far East. Huson sail from Amsterdam and headed North. On the ship, the conditions were horrible that about 20 men wanted to go back, so he turned the ship and headed south down the east coast of canada. Unfortunetly he failed again. -

Henry HudsonHudson returned on his new ship "Discovery" in 1610. He found a large body of water and he thought it was the Pacific Ocean. The large body of water was actually a large bay. Huson named it Hudson Bay. Hudson and his crew stayed through the winter and suffered from the icy conditions. In the summer they were in a small boat and never seen again.
