  • PhD in Psychology

In 1972 David Bloor earned his PhD in Psychology from Edinburgh University for his thesis “Speech and the Regulation of Behavior.” In his thesis Bloor would examine the functions of speech as it related to the organization of behavior as theorized by L.S. Vygotsky.
  • Strong Program

In the 1970’s David Bloor worked in conjunction with Barry Barnes to lay out the foundation for the “Strong Programme.” In these works Bloor would define the “norms” by which sociology functioned within science. Those “norms” were: 1) causality 2) impartiality 3) symmetry 4) reflexivity
  • Anti-Latour

In 1999, David Bloor published a response to the works of French sociologist Bruno Latour. Latour’s approach to sociology within science borrowed from the “actor-network” theory. Bloor objected to Latour’s theory and felt that recognition of the social behaviors within science did not require a distorted version of the affiliations between thought and reality.
