Cortes land in Mexico. Looking for gold. HIs route starts at Cuba, lands in Mexico. Unloads cargo then sinks his ships. His men have to stay with him because ships are sunk.
Next goal is to conquer the Aztec Empire.
Montezuma is the leader of Aztecs. Destroys town and rebuilds it. Cortes takes all the gold to Spain on ships. -

Galveston Island lands on Madagora Bay. Prisoner for 8 years. Indians won;t let him leave. They make him a chamen because he saved an indian from an arrow wound. Finally escapes.

Goals=: explore gulf and coast line by land.
Route: starts in Cuba up to Florida along coast line using Pineda's map. Land in TAmpa Bay, three ships, 300 men. They meet up with indians and asks for gold. Indians say yes there is gold There is no gold in Florida, just swamps. Lost 150 ment, ships left them behind. They built rafts to go back to cuba but they followed the coast around to Mexico. Epic failure. He drowns in hurrican on Texas coast. -

La Salle
First french explorer to enter the area of present day Texas.
He traveled Lake Michigan down the Illinois and Missouri Rivers to navigate the entire length of the Mississippi. He named the area Lousiana for the French King XIV.
Goal: to found a french colony to make a base from which to capture sliver mines.
Result:La Salle was murdered in East Texas while trying to find a french outpost for supplies. Only 40 colonists remaind. Also, as result the French established trade with the Native AMeric
