    Many countries are in the United Nations which has its headquarters in New York City. The organization was formed in 1945. It was developed to keep peace and settle global disputes. This is important to history the UN is one of many organizations that still remain today and will continue to keep peace between the countries. It impacts economics because without the UN many countries would be wasting resources on war and by keeping peace they no longer need to waste materials and resources.

    Jackie Robinson
    Jackie Robinson was the first African American major league baseball player. His career first officially started after the Brooklyn Dodgers took an interest in him in 1947. He was also a soldier in WW2 and worked his way up to 2nd lieutenant. He is important to history because he was the first African American in the Hall of Fame. He impacted society because there is a major league day dedicated to him where everyone in the MLB wears his retired number and he inspired many people.

    Elvis Presley
    Elvis Presley was known as the King of Rock n' Roll in 1956 through 1973. Discovered at a young age, Elvis quickly became popular as he got older. Usually featured on the Ed Sullivan Show, he was only shown from the waist up because of his "unusual" dancing. He was important to history because he had 94 gold singles, 40 gold albums, and he starred in 33 movies. He impacted society because, not only was he a good singer, but he was also a good person and donated money to charity.

    The Berlin Wall was built in Berlin, Germany in 1961. The wall was built to divide the city of Berlin into the East side and the West side. This was done after 3 million East Berliners fled to the West.The wall was built, literally, overnight. The East side was under the control of the Soviet Union, which was communist, while the West side was free. This is important to history because it became a symbol of the Cold War. It impacted politics because people were forced to be under communism.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis involved two major countries, the U.S. and the Soviet Union. In 1962, a U-2 spy plane flies over Cuba and snaps a picture of it. The picture shows missile locations. The U.S. came to find that the Soviet Union had given the missiles to Cuba, so in order to prevent them from giving Cuba more, the U.S. set up a mid-Atlantic blockade. It is important to history because we almost went to Nuclear War. It impacted politics because the leaders won't let this happen again.

    For a very long time, man has wondered what lies upon the rock that shines in our night sky. Finally, on July 20, 1969 at 4:17 pm., we made it there. The U.S. sent a shuttle into space with 3 astronauts on board. Neil A., Buzz A., and Michael Collins. This event was important because at 10:56 pm., Neil Armstrong was the first person to step onto the surface of the moon, beating the Soviet Union. This impacted politics because the U.S. and the Soviet Union were battling for first to the moon.

    Gerald Ford was a republican who was elected from 1974-1976 in Washington D.C. He was first a congressmen for 25 years before obtaining Presidential office after Richard Nixon resigned from office. He was important because he started trade with the Soviet Union. He was impactful because he pardoned Nixon.

    Ronald Reagan was the republican governor of California before he was elected for President in 1980-1988 in Washington D.C. His impact was on politics because he was involved in star wars and spent $100 billion on defense. He also started reaganomics which cut taxes. He was important because he cut money in education, helped reduce nukes, elected the first female supreme court justice, and almost was assassinated which brought forth a famous quote, ¨Honey, I forgot to duck.¨

    On June 28th, 1986, NASA was launching a shuttle into space. The shuttle was called Challenger and was special for a particular reason. There was a contest to see which civilian would go into space with 6 other astronauts. This led to school teacher, Christa McAuliffe, winning and attending the shuttle. At 74 seconds after liftoff, the shuttle burst into flames, disintegrating everything and everyone aboard. This impacted society because there were many viewers that day and it was traumatic.

    Social Networking has been around for quite some time. With a surplus of people having social media, it´s no wonder that there are so many. The first social media was in 1994 and it was called Geocities. Then, came the development of direct messaging in 1997, which allowed people to talk through the computer. The importance is that social media has made it easier to connect with people and job search. It has impacted society because social media has changed the way we interact with each other.

    George W. Bush was governor of Texas before his election to Presidency in 2000-2008 in Washington D.C. He impacted society because was President during the devastating attack on 9/11. He was important because he was President when Saddam Hussein was executed, there was a tax relief, and the No Child Left Behind act was passed.

    War in Irag/Afganistan
    In 2001, following the 9/11 attack on the United States, the U.S. sent troops over to Afghanistan and Iraq. This is important because there was a possibility of Iraq employing weapons of mass destruction. The U.S. sent troops to also protect oil reserves and make the world safe from terrorists. This impacted politics because Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden were captured which helped Iraqis elect their own gov´t. This war has been going on for over a decade and is still going on today.
