Financial Crisis 2008
The banks on Wall Street were in the Financial Crisis. The U.S. faced it's biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression in 2008. Banks were lending too much money to people with little oversight. The American economy crashed in October of 2008. The importance of this was major banks failed and people were losing their homes. Financial Crisis impacted the economy because the U.S. lost 2 million jobs and the rate shot up to 7.2 % -
Cold War
The Cold War was tension between two countries without the actual fighting. This was 1945-1989. The USSR and the United States were the countries fighting. The Cold War took place in the Eastern and western bloc. The Cold War was important because it helped stop Communism from gaining even more power. This also helped the allies break up. The Cold War impacted American history because they have been fighting forever! And it was finally over. -
Jackie Robinson
Jackie Robinson. Jackie was the first African American to play MLB. This was a huge deal. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Before all of this happened, Jackie was drafted in the Army in WW2. Jackie was the 2nd Lieutenant. After the war, he played in the Negro Leagues. Then he became the first African American player in the MLB in 1947. That right there is the importance. Jackie Robinson impacted America because number 42 was retired by every single MLB Baseball team. -
JFK Assasination
The President at the time JFK, and his assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. The president was shot in the head in Dallas, Texas. His brains were falling out on his wife Jackie Kennedy. This was in Dallas, Texas Deally Plaza. This was a shock to America. Nobody would want to see their President get shot in the head while waving to the crowd, or, Jackie Kennedy wouldn't want to see that either. Kennedy died at 2:00 p.m. at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. The impact is that one of the greatest Presidents died. -
Man Lands on the Moon
Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins piloted Apollo 11 onto the moon's surface. July 20, 1969 at 4:17 p.m., the astronauts were piloted. Stepping with his left foot first. Armstrong said "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Armstrong described what the moon was like. He said it was like charcoal. A total of 21 hours on the moon. This impacted America because the U.S. were the first to make it to the moon. -
Elvis Presley
Elvis Presley. Elvis was the King of Rock ' N Roll. Elvis was on the Ed Sullivan Show. On this, he was only shown waist up. Elvis would swing his hips, and many didn't like that. 1952-1960 Elvis was drafted into the Army. Afterwards, he revived his singing career. He was important because he had over 94 gold singles and 40 gold albums and also starred in 33 films. Elvis impacted America, he was one of the biggest influences on pop culture and Rock ' N Roll. -
Vietnam War
The Vietnamese and the Americans were in this war. This was a Military conflict between South Vietnam. This was a very terrifying war. This was near South China Sea in Southeast Asia. This was important because this was all about Communism. The U.S. was afraid of the "Red Scare" coming back. The Vietnam War impacted America because there are 1,614 citizens missing still. Also, the government spent billions of dollars. All of this divided the U.S. -
Jimmy Carter
Jimmy Carter was the Democratic President in 1976-1980. Before Presidency, Jimmy was the Governor of Georgia. Jimmy Carter's Presidency was very important. During his time, Iran hostages that were taken returned 2 minutes after the new President was inquired. He was also in the Olympic Boycott. Jimmy was a very different man, but a great one. He was a millionaire peanut farmer! Jimmy Carter impacted American society because of how great of a President he was. -
Space Shuttle Challenger
Space Shuttle Challenger. The terrible NASA liftoff. January 28, 1986 Christa McAuliffe was the first civilian to go with NASA. She was a school teacher. The importance was at 11:39 am. At 59 seconds of liftoff, plume of black smoke appeared. At 74 seconds Challenger burst into flames disintegrating over the Atlantic Ocean. Space Shuttle Challenger impacted America because there were no survivors, there were also schools watching this. And NASA's director was fired. -
September 11, 2001 Attacks
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack on the World Trade Center buildings in New York City. The world became aware of the attack when United Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower at 7:46 am on September 11, 2001. The second plane hit the South Tower about an hour later. When America realized that this was a terrorist attack, it meant that America was under attack for the first time since Pearl Harbor. The 9/11 attack impacted society because we no longer felt safe on our own soil. -
George W. Bush
George W. Bush was the Republican President in 2000-2008. Bush was the Governor of Texas. He was also President during September 11, 2001. Bush made sure that "No Child Left Behind" was a thing. Also, he created Tax Relief. This was important because he lessened the amount of tax but the U.S. was more in debt. George W. Bush impacted the America because the Tax Relief was like the main thing that was important. He helped with getting the U.S. out of debt, but then got us back into it. -
NATO/Warsaw Pact
WWII started NATO and the Soviet Union started Warsaw. NATO was the treaty of the Atlantic organization. The Warsaw Pact was the Soviet Unions Military alliance set up to go against NATO. The members of NATO agreed to help one another if they were attacked. NATO was founded in April 1949. Warsaw Pact was founded in May 1955. These two events were important because, the fighting between each other was finally over.
