    Jackie Robinson
    Jackie Robinson was born in Georgia and later moved to California where he attended UCLA after being lettered in for four sports. He then was drafted into the U.S Army when WWII began. When he returned home, he played for the Negro League but was soon chosen by Branch Ricky for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jackie Robinson was important because he became the first African American player in Major League baseball in 1947. He impacted U.S society because his number was retired by every baseball team.
  • NATO/Warsaw Pact

    NATO/Warsaw Pact
    The NATO treaty was founded by the WWII Allies in 1949 at Brussels, Belgium. NATO was important because the members agree to help one another if they were attacked. NATO impacted politics because it created a Political Alliance. The Warsaw Pact is the Soviet Union's Military alliance set up to go against NATO. It was founded in 1955 by the Soviet Union. This was important because it was a threat to NATO. The pact impacted politics because it threatened democracy in Eastern Europe.

    Korean War
    The Korean War was between North Korea, South Korea, U.S, and USSR. North Korea invaded South Korea. Communist troops controlled almost all of South Korea. However, MacArthur caught them and pushed North Korea back. This War was important because it would Punish North Korea for their aggression and Unite Korea again. The Korean War impacted society because there is a memorial commemorating the Korean War in Washington D.C. People are able to thank the U.S for keeping them free of North Korea.

    Joe McCarthy was a senator from Wisconsin who announced he had a list of 57 state department employees who were communists. Many people were accused of being communists and were fired. In 1954, a televised hearing to investigate Joe's charges were held. He was eventually censured and lost power. This is important because many people were fired and afraid to defend those who were accused. Joseph McCarthy impacted society because he spread fear and suspicion of communism across the Nation.

    JFK Assassination
    President John F. Kennedy ran against Richard Nixon in the 1960 election and won by a narrow margin. He proposed many programs to help people in need. However, in November 1963, JFK was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald and later died at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. His assassination was important because there was a controversy if Oswald acted alone which lead to the set up of the Warren Commission. JFK's assassination impacted politics because Vice President, Lyndon Johnson, became president.

    Elvis Presley was born in 1935 in Mississippi and moved to Memphis Tennessee. He was known as the King of Rock N Roll in the 1960s and 1970s. He was popular because of television shows he performed on and was only shown waist up because his dancing was not considered appropriate for T.V. Elvis was important because he had 94 gold singles, 40 gold albums, and starred in 33 films. He impacted U.S society by being one of the biggest influences in pop culture and Rock N Roll.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was an activist during the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s. In 1968, he visited Memphis, TN to support black sanitation workers on strike. There, the assassin shot him across the parking lot. MLK was shot in his jaw which severed his spinal cord and he died at 7:05 pm. Martin's assassination is important because the leader of America's non-violent Civil Rights movement was silenced. This impacted society because the Civil Rights Movement ended with his assassination.

    Gerald Ford was the U.S president from 1974 until 1976. Before press, he was a Congressman in Michigan for 25 years. He was the only person to be Vice President and President and not be elected. Gerald Ford was important because he started trade with the Soviet Union and was part of the Warren Commission investigating JFK's Assassination. Gerald Ford impacted politics because he pardoned Richard Nixon.

    Ronald Reagan was the U.S president from 1980 to 1988. Before presidency, Ronald was the Governor of California. He was also was a movie star and acted in over 50 films. Ronald Reagan was important because he helped reduce nuclear weapons and put the first woman Justice on the supreme court. He impacted U.S economy because the Reaganomics cut taxes.
  • George W. Bush

    George W. Bush
    George Bush was a U.S republican president from 2000 until 2008. Before presidency, however, he was the Governor of Texas. He was also the head male cheerleader and during presidency, took 900 days off. George Bush was important because he helped tax relief and created the No Child Left Behind association. George also impacted society by helping in the September 11, 2001 incident.

    The war in Afghanistan and Iraq took place in 2001 as well as 2003. There was a possibility of Iraq employing weapons of mass destruction. The war in Afghanistan and Iraq were important because we needed to protect oil reserves and make the world safe from terrorists in response to 9/11. The war in Afghanistan and Iraq impacted politics because of the eventual capture and death of Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden the as well as the U.S helping the Iraqis elect their own government.

    Hurricane Katrina
    Hurricane Katrina occurred on August 29, 2005 and caused catastrophic flooding in New Orleans. This hurricane was one of the most costly natural disasters in the U.S at a category 5 hurricane. The cause for the hurricane was a levee failure. 80% of the city was destroyed and costed $81 billion due to this hurricane. Hurricane Katrina was important because there was 1,836 people who died and 705 missing. Hurricane Katrina impacted economy because more than 70 countries pledged donations.
