    Baby Boom
    The Baby Boom was an increase in the amount of babies born. It went from 9,000,000 to 29,000,000. All these babies were born at the same time because men were out fighting in WWII and the Great Depression was a bad time to have a child. There was also better healthcare for these babies to be safely delivered.
  • United Nations

    United Nations
    The United Nations(UN) is a peace organization to resolve conflict and wars. Their headquarters is in New York City. The UN was started in 1945. They worked to solve conflict, solve disease and hunger problems, improve education, and provide vaccines. This was important to history because this has solved many conflicts. This impacted society because the UN has helped so many people.
  • Truman Doctrine/Marshall Plan

    Truman Doctrine/Marshall Plan
    In March of 1947, President Truman sent $400,000,000 to Turkey so that they could build up their army to prevent them from getting taken over and changed to Communism. This was important because they stayed democratic. The Marshall Plan was set up by George Marshall to donate $12,000,000,000 to rebuild Western Europe from WWII in April 1948. this was important because this helped rebuild Western Europe. Both of these events affected society because of all the money we donated to keep them strong
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks
    On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks had a hard day at work and got on the bus and wanted to sit down. A white man wanted to sit in the spot she was in. She refused to get up and was forced off the bus and was arrested. This started a boycott and nobody who was black was riding the bus. She was important because she started a non-violent protest for social equality.
  • Vietnam War

    In 1968, 50,000 U.S. troops were sent to South Vietnam to help fight against the Vietcong. The country of Vietnam was split into two. The North was Communist and the South was Democratic. Many people supported the war but there was also a lot of protesters. This effected the economy because we spent billions of dollars on South Vietnam for them just to loose. This war was important because 58,000 Americans died.
  • Man on the Moon

    Man on the Moon
    On July 20, 1969 at 4:17 p.m., Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins were on Apollo 11 and were bound to land on the moon. 600 million people were watching on T.V. at 10:56 p.m., Armstrong was the first one to step on the moon. When he took his first steps he said,"One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." This was impactful for society because America was first to be on the moon.
  • Jimmy Carter

    Jimmy Carter
    Jimmy Carter was a democratic president from 1976-1980. Before, he was the governor of Georgia. He was a big impact on society because of the Helsinki Agreement and the Olympic boycott in 1980 because they were held in the Soviet Union. He was important because he brought back US hostages in Iran and he also passed the Social Security Act.
  • Space Shuttle Challenger

    Space Shuttle Challenger
    On June 28, 1986, the first civilian was going to the moon on the space shuttle Challenger. They were taking a school teacher named Christa McAuliffe. NASA did this publicly to get publicity. Millions watched on T.V. At 11:39 it took off in Cape Canaveral, Florida. 59 seconds later, black smoke was appearing from the ship. 15 seconds later, the shuttle exploded. This was important to history because millions of people watched the shuttle explode and disintegrate with a school teacher on board.
  • Robert Kennedy Assassination

    Robert Kennedy Assassination
    On June 4, 1988, JFK's brother, Robert, was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel. He walked through the kitchen to take a shortcut and was shot by Sirhan Sirhan three times. Sirhan did this because of Kennedy's support for Israel's military policies. Robert died 2 days later. This was important because secret service security was highly improved. This affected society because everyone loved JFK and for Robert to die too was tragic.
  • Persian Gulf War

    In August, Hussein, the dictator of Iraq, sent 100,000 troops to Kuwait because of their oil supply. On January 16, 1991, the UN sent an air attack which was called Desert Storm. This was important to history because many people died and it was very costly. This impacted the society because 11 million barrels of oil was spilled.

    On September 11, 2001, American Airlines flight 11 hit the North tower of the World Trade Center. 20 minutes later, United Airlines Flight 175 hit the South Tower. This was an act of terrorism led by Osama BinLaden. A plane also hit the pentagon and another one was forced to crash in Shanksville, Pennsylvania because the passengers stopped the terrorists. This is important to history because more than 2,000 people died in these attacks. This was the first attack on the US since Pearl Harbor.
  • Iraq/Afghanistan War

    Iraq/Afghanistan War
    The US sent troops to Afghanistan in October of 2001 and sent troops to Iraq in March of 2003 because of theories of them having WMD's. The US wanted to protect oil reserves and make the world safe of terrorism. The importance of this event was that the UN didn't find any evidence of them having WMD's. This was impactful to the economy and society because it costed 4-6 billion dollars and there were about 6,882 US casualties so far.
