    The Truman Doctrine was established in 1947 by President Truman to give help to Greece and Turkey who came under attack by the Soviet Union. It was named the Marshall Plan after it expanded to help all of Western Europe. It was important to history because the US didn't get involved with other countries during peacetime before that. The Truman Doctrine/Marshall Plan impacted society because it kept America more safe. It impacted the economy because Europe started to by more US products.

    The TV age was a nickname of the "Golden Age" of television which started in the late 1940s and ended in the late 1950s. That's when TV had its peak audience. This was important to history because the TV was a new invention and started a new era of technology. It impacted American society by including a wider range of audiences around the country than theaters could. It also help create a lot of money for the commercial business.

    Jackie Robinson was a baseball player for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was the first black player in the MLB and the first to be inducted in the Hall of Fame. He was in the MLB from 1947 to 1956. This important to history because he was the first black player in the major league. Jackie Robinson impacted society because he was the first black player during segregation. He impacted society by showing that blacks could perform in the Major Leagues.

The Cold War was important to history because it started a great rivalry between the U.S. and Russia. The Cold War impacted U.S. society by causing the U.S. to be protective of other nations.

    The Medicare/Medicaid Act was signed into law by President Johnson in 1965. It gives health insurance to poor people and senior citizens. It is paid for by the government and payroll taxes. It was important to history because it was the first time the US had national health insurance. Medicare/Medicaid impacted society because it gave insurance to people who couldn't pay for it. It impacted the economy because many people could spend money on other things besides medical bills.

    Robert F. Kennedy was running to be President in 1968. He was assassinated on June 4th by Sirhan Sirhan at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. This event was important to history because if he had won, he would have ended the Vietnam War sooner. It impacted society because Americans started to have negative feelings about the country. It also caused more division in the country between different races, ages, and political parties.

    The students and teachers of Kent State University in Ohio were involved in this horrible massacre on May 5, 1970. Kent State students were protesting the Vietnam War and started throwing rocks at the police. The police started firing and killed nine students. Several were injured. The event was important to history because it led more people to protest the Vietnam War. It impacted society because it forced the National Guard to change the way it handled crowd control.

    In 1972, President Nixon had people break into the Democratic Committee's offices. They bugged their phones and stole documents. Nixon tried to cover up the crimes but was found out and resigned. It was important to history because a US president violated the 4th Amendment and used the IRS to attack his opponents. Watergate impacted society because Americans stopped trusting the government. It impacted politics because the President tried to hide evidence from Congress.

    Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the U.S. He was elected in 1976 and left office in 1980. He was governor of Georgia before becoming President. President Carter boycotted the Olympics in 1980 because the Cold War was happening, and he didn't want to send Americans to the Soviet Union. Athletes were angry because they had trained four years for nothing and would be too old to attend the 1984 Olympics. It impacted society because it was the first time the U.S. didn't attend the Olympics.

It is important to history because it started the US's war on terror. It impacted the economy because the US has spent over $1 trillion. It impacted society because thousands of soldiers have died.

    Hurricane Katrina affected New Orleans, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Hurricane Katrina was a category 5 that had category 3 winds. It also had 157+ winds. The hurricane mostly took place in New Orleans, but took place also in Mississippi ,New Orleans, Alabama, and Louisiana. This event was important to history because we had lots of lives lost and lots of property damage. Hurricane Katrina impacted American society because we had lots countries donate to us that we don't like.
