    The first of the television programs debuted in the late 1940s. In 1948, there were not many t.v. sets, less than 17,000. By the time the 1950s rolled around, there were about 50 million t.v. sets out. This event was important because of the huge lifestyle change that took place during this time period. This made a big impact because of the advertisements that come with the t.v. shows.

    Cold war is a state of tension between two countries without actually fighting. This took place between 1945 and 1989. An example of cold war was the United States and the Soviet Union, or communism v.s democracy. The cold war took place in the United States and the Soviet Union. The cold war was important because it helped gain many friendships and allied forces broke up. It impacted American society because it stopped communism from spreading.
  • Joe McCarthy

    Joe McCarthy
    Joseph McCarthy was a senator from Wisconsin. In 1953, he announced that he had a list of 57 state department employees who were supposedly communist. He never could prove this claim and from this he gained quite a bad reputation. The impact of this is many people were fired and others were too afraid to defend them. In 1954, there were televised hearings held to investigate McCarthy's charges. This was important because Joseph McCarthy was eventually censured.
  • Rosa Park

    Rosa Park
    Rosa parks is best known for the Montgomery Bus Boycott. During this event, Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white passenger. This event made a huge impact because it was followed by many protests, as well as many bus boycotts, so many that bus companies started to lose money. though she is very well known for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, she also known for her autobiography "Rosa Parks My Story." This event was important because it was one step closer to equal rights for all.

    Berlin Wall
    In this event, 3 million East Berliners fled to West Berlin. This act embarrassed the Soviet Union. So suddenly over night in August 1961, the East German soldiers began building a wall of concrete and barbed wire across Berlin. It was 69 1/2 miles long. If one tried to escape they were shot at. This event was important because it came down and the Berliners were freed. It impacted politics because when it fell, it was a symbol of cold war.

    JFK Assassination
    John F. Kennedy was assassinated at Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. He was assassinated on November 22, 1963. The person that assassinated him was Lee Harvey Oswald. The death of Kennedy impacted society because many were devastated and angry. Many gathered to mourn the death of Kennedy. It was important because if Kennedy had not been assassinated, we would not have gone to war with Vietnam.

    Richard Nixon was president from 1968 to 1974. He benefited the U.S. economically. He was a good president until June 17, 1972, in Washington D.C. 5 men broke into the Democratic Headquarters. They most likely would not have been caught had they not left the door slightly open once they left. Nixon claimed that he had nothing to do with this incident. Later on there were tape recordings proving Nixon had to do with this. He was put to trial, but resigned from office before convicted.

    On January 28, 1986, the space shuttle challenger was 73 seconds into flight when it suddenly broke apart. This tragically led to the death of all seven crew members. This event took place in Caper Canaveral, Florida. This event was important to history because NASAs director was fired and the shuttle program was on hold for 2 months. This made an impact because of the many devastated by this event, and the seven crew members that are remembered after this tragedy.

    Bill Clinton was president from 1992 to 2000, and he was a Democrat. Before he was president he was the Governor of Arkansas. He was important because he lowered deficit. He made an impact because, he sent 20,000 troops to Bosnia, the health care reform, and the test treaty ban, all happened during his presidency.

    George W. Bush was president from 2000 to 2008, and he was a republican. Before he was president, he was the governor of Texas. He made an impact because he was president during the September 11, 2001 attack. He was important because the war on terror, Saddam Hussein execution, tax relief, and no child left behind act all happened during his presidency.

    On August 29, 2005, there was a category five hurricane. Once it hit land it was a category three. Hurricane Katrina destroyed over 150,000 homes and over 900 churches. It affected 90,000 square miles. there were 1,836 deaths, and there are still 705 people missing. This made an impact because of the 70 countries that came together to pledge monetary donations to us. It was important because it was one of the costliest U.S. Hurricanes.

    In 2008 the world suffered a dangerous financial crisis similar to the Great Depression. The U.S. financial sector was involved. Any company relying on credit suffered from this crisis. Banks stopped trusting people to pay them back. The impact from this was deep recession had taken over most of the world. As well as the U.S. had lost two million jobs, and the unemployment rate went to 7.2 percent. It was important because the bush administration did little with tax to stop the recession.
