The SS St louis was a German ocean liner most notable for a single voyage in 1939, in which 'her' captain Gustav Schroder, tried to find homes for 908 Jewish refugees from Germany, after they were denied entry to cuba and the United States, Then finally accepted into various Eurpean countries. Its significant because this person is trying to help people that the germans want to be killed. -

When Canada declares war it wasnt immediately. France and Britain declared war against Germany. The first Canadain victum of the Second World War was a 10 year old, Margaret Hayworth of Hamilton, Ontario. She died when German submaries torpedoed the Athenia, An unarmed passenger ship, on the first day of war. This is significan because as much as they declared war didnt werent going to start right away and when they started Germany eneded up killing a young little girl, That got everthing worst. -
Wartime Industries Control Board Established
The war changed Canada. It became a rich industries nation producing aircraft, ships, weapons, vehicles, and food not only for the national war effort but also for the counties allies. The state stepped into the lives of Canadians as never before.They had all control of your hours and if you didnt show up to work you would get fined for not showing up. Its significant because its important because its what got us out of the dpression and they had control. -

The battle of britan was July-September in 1940. The nickname of the battle was Operation Sea Lion. Canadains Contribution, 80 poilots fought in the battle and over 100 killed.
Its significant because it was really important war because the british had the canadians help to defet the germans. -
Women Allowed To The Formation Of CWAC
Adiminishing supply of male labour and two years of Allied defeats helped force the issue, but it was mainly concern about the tightening supply of manpower for the rapidly expanding Canadian forces which overcame any lingering. On August 13th 1941, the government authorized the formation of the Canadians Women's Army Corps (CWAC) to enlist several thousand women in support roles for the armed forces. its significant because it was the first time that women were allowed to join the war. -
Government Imposed Rationing
All Canadians recevied a ration book. When they bough suger,butter,meat,tea, or coffee, they had to hand over couponds from their book. When the coupons were gone they couldnt buy any rationed items. If cought they would have to pay stiff fines. Its significant because it was showing that the goverment was really stricked about things that were going on. -
Dieppe Attack
The reasons for the raid on Dieppe was intened to seize the town, Destroy the port facities and airports and take prisioner and return to England. The summer of 1942 5000 canadains died. It was also a foolish attach a fortified beach in broad daylight. Its significant becuase this battle was viewed differently by people. Some people think is was a masicure. -
D-Day
Although the term D-day is used routinely as military lingo for the day an operation or even will take place, for many it is also synonymous with june 6,1944, the day the Allied powers crossed the English channel and landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, beginning the liberation of Western Eurpoe from Nazi control.
