The Emancipation Proclomation was written by Abraham Lincoln on September 22nd 1862. It pretty much freed the slaves by the first of the year. And the States that seceded had to return to the union by the first of the year too. -

For the confederates, 4,708 were killed, 12,693 were wounded and 5,830 were captured or missing. The union was lead by George E. Mead, and the confederate was lead by Robert E. Lee. -
