I chose this because they were wongfully accused during the redscare and it resulted in a death of two people who may have been innocent.

    Attorney General Harlan Fiske Stone appointed Hoover director of the Bureau. As Director, Mr. Hoover put into effect a number of institutional changes to correct criticisms. Director Hoover fired a number of agents whom he considered to be unqualified to be special agents. We chose this event because started to clean up the streets from criminals. It made criminals start to be careful in crimes. This lead to less crimes over some time and started to end the great depression.

The five-day workweek was also instituted in order to increase productivity. Though workers’ time on the job had decreased, they were expected to expend more effort while they were there. We chose this event because it decresed time on job so people got a break. This led to the system we use today 40 hour and 5 days. This made people work harder in their job.

One of Capone’s longtime enemies, the Irish gangster George “Bugs” Moran, ran his bootlegging operations out of a garage on the North Side of Chicago. Some 70 rounds of ammunition were fired. When police officers from Chicago’s 36th District arrived, they found one gang member alive. This is an important event because because it shows how powerful the mob can be.

Black Tuesday is often cited as the beginning of the Great Depression. We chose this event because it was the cause of the great depression which lead to so many people losing jobs. This date caused one of the worst times in American History. We had our unemployment rate at record highs at 25%.

The need for them increased when the economy worsened in 1932, and 12 million Americans about 25 percent of the normal labor force were out of work. The goverment where either totally involvend or not at all. We chose this event because it gave people food in a time of need. It gave people hope that things could be better in their lives. It let parents feed their children.

    The Star-Spangled Banner, by Francis Scott Key, is approved by President Hoover and Congress as the national anthem. The lyrics of the anthem were inspired during the bombing of Fort McHenry by British ships at the head of Baltimore harbor in September of 1814.
    This is import because that song has been used for so many years. It is very important in U.S. Culture

     Empire state building opens
    Empire state building opens may 1931- On may first 1931 the president Hoover officially opened. The empire state building was one of the tallest buildings in New york. Hoover officially dedicates this building by turning on the lights from Washington DC with a button.
    This is important because it represents us moving forward as a country. This building was know as the first to have more than 100 floors in it. The empire state building also has 6,500 windows in it.

The Amendment was the first to set a time delay before it would take effect following ratification, The amendment taking effect on January 16, 1920. We choose this event because it got rid of all alcohol consumption in america. Many people were upset by this decision. Some people needed alcohol so much they went to the black market to buy crates of it.

    On Nov. 3, 1936, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was re-elected in a landslide over his Republican challenger, Kansas Governor Alfred M. “Alf” Landon. The president won over 60 percent of the popular vote and 523 of the 531 electoral votes, losing only Maine and Vermont. I chose this because I thought that it was an important event. The president getting elected is big no matter who it is. It's special cause it is a reelection.
