Gallipoli (campaign) (25th April 1915- 7th December 1915)
The Gallipoli campaign was an eight-month campaign along the Gallipoli peninsula during the first world war. Australian forces were allied with New Zealand, Britain and French troops in the hopes to gain control of the sea route from Russia to Europe. The Gallipoli Campaign cost more than 250,000 casualties on the allied side, including some 46,000 dead. On the Turkish side, there were an estimated 250,000 casualties, with 65,000 killed. -
Lone Pine (Gallipoli campaign)
Lone Pine was launched on the sixth and ended on the ninth of August 1915 was one of the most famous battles in the Gallipoli campaign. Lone pine battle was fought on the hills Chunuk Bair and Hill 971. The battle resulted in 2'200 Australians killed or wounded and around 7'000 Turks killed or wounded. -
NEK (Gallipoli campaign)
The NEK was a battle that was fought on the seventh of August 1915 in the Gallipoli campaign in World War One. The NEK was a narrow stretch of land on the Gallipoli Peninsular. Approxietly 240 Australians died at the NEK fighting againts the Turkish. -
The Battle of the Somme
The Battle of the Somme was a series of battles fought along the Somme valley located in France. The first of these battles started on the first of January 1916 and the last battle ended on the eighteenth of November 1916, therefore, lasting for approximately eleven months. In the Battle of Somme, Australian and British army troops were fighting German forces. These battles resulted in approximately 420,000 British casualties, 200,000 French casualties and 465,000 German deaths. -
Bullecourt (11th of April 1917)
The first battle of Bullecourt started on the eleventh of April 1917 east of the village Bullecourt, lasting several hours. It was an Australian and British attack on the German soldiers. Due to bad planning Australian forces suffered from approximately 3'000 casualties and 1'700 soldiers taken prisoner. -
Bullecourt (3rd-17th of May 1917)
The second battle of Bullecourt started on the third of May 1917 and lasted till the seventeenth of May 1917, going for a total of two weeks. British and Australian forces aim was to secure the village of Bullecourt by penetrating the German line. By the time German forces had admitted defeat over 18'000 British and Australians, and approximeatly 11'000 Germans were killed or wounded in the battle. -
Messines
The battle of Messines started on the seventh of June 1917 and finished on the fourteenth of June 1917, lasting one week. The battle was located south-east of Ypres in Frace. Messines was an offensive conducted by the British army. The British were fighting against the German. This battle resulted in 25'000 German casualties, over 7'00 German prisoners and approximetly 17'000 British deaths. -
Beersheeba
The battle of Beersheeba took place 43km from the Turkish bastion basin of Gaza. The attack started on the thirty-first of October 1917 and concluded on the seventh of November 1917. Australian and British forces were fighting against the Turkish in aims to capture Beersheba. Australia suffered from approximately 90 casualties and around 40 soldiers and Australian officers were wounded.Also resulted in over 1'000 Turks taken prisner. -
Villers Bretonneux (4th-5th of April 1918)
Villers Bretonneux consisted of two battles. The first battle was located west of Villers Bretonneux in Northern France. The battle started on the fourth of April 1918 and ended on the fifth of April 1918; lasting one day. Australian and British forces were fighting against German troops resulting in 1’400 Australian casualties and in both the first and second villers Bretonneux battles over 10'000 German deaths. -
Villers Bretonneux (24th- 25th of April 1918)
Villers Bretonneux consisted of two battles. The second battle was located west of Villers Bretonneux (Northern France). The second battle started on the twenty-fourth of April 1918 and concluded on the twenty-fifth of April 1918, only lasting one night. Australian and British forces were fighting German soldiers. The battle ended in over 2’400 Australian soldier deaths and in the first and second battle over 10’00 German soldiers were killed and 9’500 British casulties. -
End of World War One
