The French cabinet, defeatist and deeply divided, asked for an armistice. Marshal Philippe Pétain, the 84-year-old hero of World War I, became premier.The Franco-German armistice was signed on June 22 in the forest of Compiègne. The Germans occupied Paris on June 14. -
Forth Event of the War
On August 9, 1941, Roosevelt met with Winston Churchill on a battleship off the coast of Newfoundland. After five days of talks they issued the Atlantic Charter. Although the United States was not yet officially in the war, this document outlined the Allies’ war aims and called for the “final destruction of Nazi tyranny.” That's what happen in the forth event of the war. -
Final Event of the War
After driving the Germans from the Ardennes bulge the Allied armies advanced into Germany. By the end of March 1945 the Americans and British had advanced halfway across Germany.In Italy Mussolini was caught and shot by partisans on April 28. The next day the Germans in Italy surrendered unconditionally. HITLER COMMITS SUICIDE; GERMANS SURRENDER
