    The Japanese Invasion of China was a war that took place between the Japanese and Chinese. The main cause of this war was because of Pearl Harbor. It was the biggest Asian war and accounted for most of the deaths of civilian and military casualties in the Pacific War.

  • Germany's Invasion of Poland

    Germany's Invasion of Poland
    The Germans invaded Poland very strategically. They bombed the main buildings, avoided main roads, and had their army ready to come in last minute. The Polish lost almost 3 times as many soldiers as the Germans in the end.

    German Blitzkrieg
    It took only a few weeks for the German Army to completely defeat the French Third Republic. They were completely unprepared for Hitlers very organized army. The German army in 1940 had an offensive doctrine that emphasized the speed of decision making, the speed of maneuvers and decentralised action.

    Fall of Paris
    The Germans had two main plans for the Invasion of France. The Germans didn't have any struggle defeating any of the opposing forces in this Invasion and in the end, Hitler ordered the French Surrender to be signed in the same railway car that the Germans signed their surrender to the French at the end of World War 1

  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa
    The Axis forces thought they could reach and capture the soviet capital of mascow in a little more than eight weeks. A massive land and air campaign that involved everything from tanks to horses. In the end, Hitler had inevitably underestimated the Soviets.

    Pearl Harbor
    Japanese bomb planes bombed the American Naval Base at Pearl Harbor. They planned to completely destroy the harbor but they failed. Although they did destroy a number of ships and some buildings were damaged. Luckily that Sunday morning there weren't many ships in the harbor.

    The Wannsee Conference was a meeting of German Nazi Officials. The purpose of the conference was to ensure the administrative leaders were cooperating with the idea of the jews being imported to Poland and being murdered.

  • Bataan Death March

    Bataan Death March
    The day after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, the Japanese invasion of the Philippines began.After capturing Manila, the Philipino and American troops were forced to the Bataan region. On April 9, U.S. General Edward King Jr. surrendered his troops. The troops were gathered by the Japanese and forced to walk 65 miles, which took around 5 days. They were beaten and starved. Thousands of troops died.

    Battle of Midway
    The Japanese wanted to eliminate the United States from the war in the Pacific. The batt;e was fought between the United states Navy and the Japanese Empire. Japan was trying to lure the American aircraft carriers into a trap and occupy Midway. In the end, the Japanese failed terribly and the U.S. secured their spot at Midway.

    Battle of Stalingrad
    The Battle of Stalingrad was successful against the Soviet defense of the city of Stalingrad during World War II. Russians say it is the greatest battle of their war. It stopped the German advance into the U.S.S.R. This is the battle where the Allies began to change direction and flourish.

  • Operation Gomorrah

    Operation Gomorrah
    British bombers raided Germany in retaliation of 167 British deaths. Over 1500 German civilians were killed. Britain lost only 12 aircraft out of 79, due to a new radar-jamming device called “Window,”. Strips of aluminum foil were dropped by the bombers. These Window strips confused German radar.

    Allied invasion of Italy
    The first target of invasion was Italy. British forces raced U.S. troops to capture the city of Messina. The U.S. won and nearly 140,000 troops were surrnedered. The Fascist Grand Council forced Mussolini from power and a new Italian government signed a secret armistice with the Allies.

    D-Day
    D-Day is the day the Allied forces crossed the English Channel and landed on the beaches of Normandy. 155,000 Allied troops successfully stormed the beaches, but 2,000 were killed. This began the liberation of Western Europe from the Nazis. It took three months for the northern part of France to gain freedom.

    Battle of the Bulge
    The Battle of the Bulge caught the allied forces completely by surprise. It was a battle between the Axis powers. A lot of Germanys soldiers were used during this battle. The battle of the Bulge was one of the more gruesome battles fought at this time.

    Operation Thunderclap
    Allied forces firebombed the German city of Dresden, killing as many as 135,000 people and reducing the town to rubble. Operation Thunderclap was the single most destructive bombing of the war. Dresden was a major communications center and the bombing destroyed the German's ability to send messages to their army. Some believe the attack was an attempt to punish the Germans.

    The battle of Iwo Jima happened because a place was needed for damaged B-29 bombers to land. A base was also needed to escort fighters that would assist in the bombing.The Japanese used an elaborate network of caves, tunnels, and underground units that were difficult to find and destroy.

    Battle of Okinawa
    he biggest and last battle of the Pacific happened in Okinawa. Air bases were needed to be captured here. It was the bloodiest battle of the war. After capturing Okinawa, the Allied forces planned to infiltrate Japan, but it wasn't neccessary. The US then bombed Hiroshima and Nagasake, causing the Japanese to surrender.

    Great Britain and the United States both celebrated Victory in Europe Day. Cities in both nations rejoiced in the defeat of Nazi Germany. German troops throughout Europe finally laid down their arms.

    Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
    The US, which is the only country to use atomic warfare during the war, dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. A blast equal to the power of 15,000 tons of TNT ruined four square miles of the city and killed approximately 80,000 people immediately. Tens of thousands more died in the following weeks from wounds and radiation poisoning. Three days later, another bomb was dropped on Nagasake.
