The law authorized the president to negotiate with Indian tribes. They could negotiate for them to move in exchange for their ancestral homelands. The act enjoyed strong support from the non-native peoples of the South eager to gain access to lands. -

The Cherokee nation was forced to give up their land. They were removed from their ancestral homelands in the southeastern U.S. Those who chose to stay were allowed to become citizens in their states -

They were migrated to a place near (in present day) Oklahoma. On the journey many Cherokee's died of sicknesses. The Cherokee's were devistated. -

It was a conflict between the United States and the Centralist Republic of Mexico. It was a politically divided and militarily unprepared Mexico against the expansionist-minded administration of U.S. Preseident Polk thought we had a "Manifest Destiny" to spread. -

In 1848, the United States won the war. The United States got lots of land in Texas. It lasted a year and a half. -
Transcontinental Railroad Completed
It starts west of Mississippi and Missouri Rivers to connect the Pacific coast at San Francisco Bay. The rail line was built by three private companies. It opened May 10, 1869.
