    The Lousiana Purchase took place in 1803. It started with an offer made by Thomas Jefferson to purchase a piece of land to expand but later turned into turned into purchasing Lousiana entirley as Napolean had no interest in the land any more. He sold the land for a very, very, very cheap price.

    It was the first american expedition to cross the western protion of the United States. Started on the Mississippi River and made their way westward through the continental divide into the pacific. Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea were part of this journey.
