Northwest Ordinance
The Northwest Ordinance was an act of the Congress of the Confedration, it created the Northwest Territory. The U.S. bought this land so we could expand westward, and it is located in the Northwest Territory. -
Louisiana Purchase (the land that was bought)
The Louisiana Purchase was a purchase of Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska; the area of Minnesota that is west of the Mississippi River; a large portion of North Dakota; a large portion of South Dakota; the northeastern section of New Mexico; the northern portion of Texas; the area of Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado east of the Continental Divide; Louisiana west of the Mississippi River (plus New Orleans); and small portions of land that form the Canadian provinces. -
Louisiana Purchase
The land only coast $11,250,000 USD, and containd 828,000 square miles. The French needed money because of debt, and this purchase nearly doubled the size of the colonies. So that was just more land to explore. -
Lewis and Clark Expadition
This was the first American Expedition to cross what is now Western U.S. They were set to explored the new territory and map it out. Once it was explored people begain moving westward. -
Purchase of Florida from Spain
This was the purcase of Florida from Spain, this was caused by the rebalion in florida. This helped expanned the U.S. -
War of 1812
This military conflict lasted two-and-a-half years. This happened because Britian was tryin gto take over our land, but no boundary changes happened. It took place in Eastern and Central North America, Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. It helpped keep our land. -
Missouri Compromise
A federal statute in the U.S. that regulated slavery in the country's western territories. In the eastern U.S. is where it happened, and this helped the states choose there alliances. -
Eerie Canal
The Erie Canal in New York that had ran 363 miles from Albany, on the Hudson River to buffalo, New York, at Lake Erie. It was to help with imports and exporting. This helped with job and coloniesing new areas. -
Indian Removal Act
This was a Treaty created to Remove the Indians from there homelands, so we could move westward. -
Trail of Tears
This took place when we removed the Cherokee from there home lands and placed them in the west. This helped us move into the mid-west territories. -

When gold was found in California and people moved westward to find opertunaty, and start a new life. -
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
This was a peace treaty that was put between USA and The Mexican Republic. This helped with the secuarty of our land. -
Oregon Territory
The Territory of Oregon was an organized incorporated territory of the United States, This opened more land for us to explore. -
Gadsden Purchase
Was a 29,640-square-mile region of present-day southern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico that was purchased by the U.S. in a treaty signed on December 30, 1853 by James Gadsden. This added land to the U.S. so we could expand the county. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
It was the territories of Kansas and Nebraska, and it opened new lands for settlement, and this caused the had the repealing the Missouri Compromise of 1820 because it allowed male settlers in those territories to determine through popular sovereignty whether they would allow slavery within each territory or State. It helped people have the idea of wanting to to move away from where we were. -
Homestead Act
" Anyone who had never taken up arms against the U.S. government (including freed slaves and women), was 21 years or older, or the head of a family, could file an application to claim a federal land grant." It gave hope that anyone could own land, and people moved away to new lands for a secound chance. -
Transcontinental Railroad
Was a 1,907-mile contiguous railroad line constructed in the United States 1863-1869 west of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers to connect the Pacific coast at San Francisco Bay with the existing eastern U.S. rail network. This helped us travil across the country with ease. -
The Dawes Act
This act authorized the President of the United States to survey American Indian tribal land and divide it into allotments for individual Indians. This pushed the indians into a smaller plot of land, so we could move westward. -
Spanish-American War
It was a conflict in 1898 between Spain and the United States, it took place around present day. We won and claimed texas as a new state.
