Northwest Territory
The U.S obtained this land by prohibiting slavery and they had a Self Government and The National Government was distant and had relativly little affect on peoples lives. Ohio, Indiana, Michigan,Pennsylvania, and Wisconcin were the 5 states created out of this territory. The requirements for a territory to become a state is; 1: Had to have a popluation of 6,000. 2: Make there own constitution. 3: Had to make public education. 4: They had to provide safety. 5:Bill Of Rights. -
Original 13 Colonies
The U.S. gained control of the land after they went to war with Great Britain and the U.S. won. Declaration Of Independence is a document that declared ALL colonies independence. American Revolution was the war that lasted 7 years and it put the U.S. in debt, so they passed the sugar and stamp act to get money from taxes to pay the debt. -
Louisianna Purchase
We bought this land from France. They used the Mississippi River to ship goods. They used the port of Louisiana to store goods. Thomas Jefferson bought this land for $15 million. From buying this land the size of the U.S almost doubled. -
Adams-Onis Treaty
Seminole Indians raided the U.S. towns and also aided runaway slaves. President Monroe sent Jackson anc his troops out to invade Florida, he commited hese ascts against Spain without permission from Monroe. His actions were unconstitutional. The Adams Onis Treaty was the agreement that let U.S gain west Florida and East. Spain gained Texas . -

Americans believed that nothing could stop this growth from takinjg place. They also believed that North America was a promised land that god had given them to set up a new society. -
Texas Annexation
Annex means to take control of land and incorporate into a country state.The new Mexican Republic promised the southerners free land and cheap land. They also promised them that they can have slaves. Mexican Government was making U.S laws illeagal in texas. They made southerners convert to being roman catholics. They tried taking away guns. They wouldn't let texas enter the union because it is a slave state and that would mean that they would be able to make slavery legal. -
Oregon Territory
Great Britain, Russia, and Spain shared this territory with the U.S . Both sideds, the u.s. and Great Britain wanted to maintain use of the Columbia River and its surrounding land. Oregon and California were the states created out of the Oregon Territory. -

The U.S. annexation of texas and the americans desire for Californiaand other territories was the main issue.The name of the treaty that ended the Mexican/American War is; The Treaty Of Guadalpe Hidalgo. California, Nevada,and Utah were the states created out of the Mexican Cession. -
Gadsen Purchase
They agreed to the purchase of the Gadsen purchase so they can hae more land and avoid war. The states that were created from the Gadsen Purchase are Arizona and New Mexico, The u.s. paid 10 million dollars for the land.The contential boundaries were finally fixed.
