    In 1898, the war of1898 occurred. The cause was the US battle ship in Cuba sunk. Also US thought they should help Cuba to be independent from Spain also they wanted Spain out of Cuba.

    Theodore Roosevelt
    In 1901, Theodore Roosevelt was elected for president. He was 26th president after William McKinley was assassinated. He worked hard for peace and he won the Nobel peace prize.

    Immigration waves
    1830 to 1910, there were immigration waves in US. After gold rush and industry grow, about 28 million immigrants came to US for new start. All of these immigrants helped make America today but not only positive outcome. There were difficulties too, US lost their jobs and not all the immigrants were successful and not all of them are welcomed.

    Panama Canal Zone
    In 1914, the Panama Canal Zone was opened. US built a canal across the Isthmus of Panama that connected the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean. It reduced the trip around south America by 8000 miles when it opened.

    US WWI</a>In April 6, 1917, US entered World War I by declaring war on Germany. The reason was German sub marine called U-boats sank the Lusitania. It was an unarmed British ship. Almost 1200 people died including more than hundred of American passengers.

    During 1914 to 1918 the world war occurred. It was the first war that involved countries from the world. US entered the war after German submarine suck the British passenger ship and killed about 1200 including 100 American.

    Jan. 1920, after WWI was over, the president Woodrow Wilson proposed the “League of Nations. The purpose of League of Nations was the keep the peace and brings stability to the world. It was to prevent the farther wars as WWI.

    Roaring twenties
    After WWI, between 1920-1930, the business in US started to grow rapidly. The economy grows strong and people had enough money to entertain. People started to look for new entertains, music, art, literature that period called roaring twenties. Also the African Americans were recognized in music and wirings. This period of cultural rebirth called the Harlem Renaissance.

    Americanization
    The term “Americanization” was used during the Americanization movement between 1895 and 1924. It’s when many immigrants came to America. It changed America’s level higher. The Americanization movement provided the traditional culture to America that is the model to the other countries.

    The great depression is the period of falling economy after the period of roaring twenties. The start of great depression was in the stock market crash in 1929. Also banks failed and people lost all the money in the bank. As this depression continued, the companies also failed, they no longer needed the workers. Also the machines replaced the human. That caused the huge number of unemploys.

    The Holocaust
    The Holocaust was during the WWII, when Jews, twins, Gypsies, many people died. During Krystalnacht in 1938, the Nazis has shown their desire to persecute the Jews. Later by the concentration camp and Nazis, about 9 millions of Jews were killed. Especially in Poland, 90 percent of Jews were killed.

    December 7, 1941, Japan suddenly attacked US. Japan attacked American naval base and Pearl Harbor. Then later, Hitler declared war on US. President Roosevelt called on congress for preparing the war. That’s how US entered the WWII.

    After WWII, 1945, the cold war begun between US and USSR. The cold war was not a war with guns or weapons. It was a struggle between democratic countries like US and Communist countries like USSR. The each side tied to make other countries to be their sides and caused the conflicts.

    1950, North Korea invaded South Korea to get control of entire country. After the WWII, Korea was divided into two countries. North represented of communist and The South represented of democratic. The war occurred between South and North to keep their power. This is a great example of war caused by the cold war.

    The Montgomery Bus Boycott
    In December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give her seat so that a white man could take it. She was a black woman. Other black women had refused to give up their seats on buses and had been arrested. It was brave that she refused to give her seat. Later it was called “The Montgomery Bus Boycott” and it was a spark leading to the Civil Rights Movement.

    The term Globalization
    The term globalization was first published in 1962 article. It was used in Spectator magazine. After it began to enter everyday English usage after the 1962 publication of Marshall McLuhan’s Gutenberg Galaxy. The world Globalism is an even more recent term and appeared for the first time in the 1986 second edition of the Oxford Dictionary.

    Martine Luther King Jr. Assassin
    April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered. He was the leader who working for black’s rights and equality. He worked for blacks for thirteen years with nonviolent protesting. He was influenced by Gandhi, in India. He was killed in the balcony of his room at the Motels.

    In 1989, President Bush and Gorbachev met and declared that Cold War is over. The cold war was the strong opposing opinions against each other. That continued and led to the competition of making more country to have their government system, in military and space war. It finished as collapse of USSR occurred.

    Berlin wall torn down
    In November 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall was fall down. It was rise at Aug. 13, 1961 during the Cold War. It divided the West Berlin and East Germany; it symbolizes the boundary between democracy and communism during the Cold War, which means, the Cold War was over.
