  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston massacre was an event where British soldiers opened fire at the colonists because there were upset with the soldiers and throwing things at them. Five people were shot and killed because of the British firepower. Because of this event there was even more anger at the king and his soldiers.
  • The Declaration of Independance

    On July 4th, 1776, the second continental congress wrote the declaration of independance. This document stated that America is now its own country. This document changed the U.S forever.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana Purchase
    In 1803 President Jefferson made a purchase from France that doubled the size of the nation and gave the U.S complete control of the Mississippi river. All this land was bought for $15 million, which was just 3 cents an acre. This event was called the Louisiana Purchase (American History, Beginings To 1914, page 346).
  • The Lewis and Clark Expedition West

    The Lewis and Clark Expedition West
    In 1803 President Thomas Jefferson assigned 2 men by the names of Mariwether Lewis and William Clark. On their journey they dicovered over 200 knew plant and animal Species that european science has never seen before. They also graphed out the maps that would guid settlers moving west. However, None of this would have been possible if it were not for a Shoshone indian by the name of Sacagewea who interpreted for them (American History, BeginingsTo 1914, Page 345).
  • The Mexican American War

    The Mexican American War
    This was a war that began when Texas wanted to be independant from Mexico, but the Mexicans did not want this so a war began. The first battle was won by the Spanish, but American troops did not give up. They struck back andthis time they won, taking most of the south-west as American Territory.They did not take all the land, however, they left what we now call Mexico. (Wikipedia.org)
  • The attack on fort sumter

    In 1861, a federal outpost was attacked by heavy gunfire from the confederate troops. Instead of surrendering the fort, President Lincoln decided to send in ships to help the fortress. This attack began the civil war.
  • Homestead Strike

    In the late 1800's, a strike against new machinery took place at Andrew Carnegies Homestead steel factory in P.A. The company refused to negotiate causing strike breakers to come and start a raging battle that lasted 14 hrs and killed 16 people.
  • Titanic

    What was thought to be the greatest ship ever was sunken only 3 days after its first voyage.Of the 2,223 people on board, only 32 percent of them survived.
  • World War 1

    On July 28, 1914, a war began caused by the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Later on Germany declares war on France. Because of this the countries need allies so they call other countries into the war.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor was a U.S naval fleet that was attacked by japanese bombers. Because of the Japanese, all the ships were destroyed and so were 2,400 American Lives.
  • Brown vs. the Board of Education

    Back in the early 1950's, schools were segregated. A man by the name of Thurgood Marshall didn't think this was fair so he fought it in court. Once he on the case schools were no longer segregated.
  • The Death of Elvis

    Elvis was an american singer and dancer who, at the time, was one of the most significant icons. Elvis died from a heart attack on August 16, 1977.
  • 911

    On September 11, 2001, four commercial airlines were hijacked and crashed into each of the twin towers, the pentagon, and a Pennsylvania field. This tragedy brought together Americans, and even nations to take down the ones responsible for this tragedy.
