Jamestown, the first successful English colony in North America is established. English entrepreneurs had set sail with a charter from the Virginia Company of London to create a colony in America. Jamestown served as the capital city for 83 years. -

Signing of the Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence is a document that states the 13 coloneys didn't consider themselves part of the British Empire. John Adams was one of the main people pushing for independence. The was a vote for indepedence on July 2, which was unanimously approved. -
Ratification of the United States Constitution
The first wave of ratification was mostly by the states who had a lot to gain from a united country. Most of the people in the smaller states though they would need the protection of the larger states. Delaware was the first state to ratify the constitution, followed by New Jersey, Georgia, and Connecticut. -
The Lousiana Purchase
In 1802, Spain closed the New Orleans port to Americans. The Americans in turn called for war on France and Spain. Jefferson, who didn't want to start a war, offered to buy New Orleans. Suprisingly, the French asked if the US wanted to buy the entire Louisiana territory. On April 30th, Jefferson bought the Louisiana territory for $15 million. (McDougal, Littell,346) -
The Lewis and Clark Journey
In May of 1804, Lewis and Clark left St. Louis to explore the Louisiana territory. They were instructed to establish good relationships with the Native American tribes and to describe the landscape, plants, and animals they came across. Along the way, Lewis and Clark met Sacagawea and she helped them translate. They returned to St. Louis in 1806. (McDougal, Littell 348) -
The Texas Revolution
In 1820, the Spanish government gave a grant to the Austin's to start a colony there, as long as the settlers followed the Spanish law. Many American's setteled in the colony, but soon came to resent the laws the Mexican government forced on them. In 1833, the war started to begin and lasted until December of 1836. The Donner Party
In April, 1846, the Donner Party, made up of 81 American Pinoneers, tried to take a faster route to CA. They took a new trail, but ended up stuck in the snow at Sierra Neveda. The party was stuck in the mountains for many months and, after running out of food, was said to turn into canibals. They were later rescued on February 18th. The War with Mexico
On April 25, Mexican soliders ambushed an American patrol group. Two days later, Congress declared war. The Americans attacked Mexico from two different diections, One troop went for south Mexico, the other north. (McDougal, Littell 432) -
The California Gold Rush
On January 24st, carpenter James Marshell discovered a piece of gold. By 1849, people from all over raced to CA and the American River. The next year, thousands of gold seekers set out to mine for gold. Almost none of the miners actually became rich. Supplies were priced highly and mining for gold was hard work, resulting in exhaustion and diseases. (McDougal, Littell 438) -
Fugitive Slave Act
This act stated tha that accused fugitives could be held without and arrest warrent. They also did not have the right to a jury trial- instead, a federal commissinoner ruled their cases. While the south backed this act, the north was enraged. The act required them to caputre runaway slaves. They eventually defied the act, even though it meant breaking the law.

Bleeding Kansas
During the election of 1855, 5,000 proslavery residents voted, and the Kansas legislative was filled with proslavery representatives. Antislavery settlers were not happy about this, and both sides readied themselves for war. In May, a proslavery mob looted a town called Lawerence. In responce, John Brown attacked some of his proslavery neighbors. This was known as the Potawatomie Massacre.

Harpers Ferry
John Brown, and 18 followers attack Harpers Ferry arsnel. Brown sent word to rally slaves to fight, but none came. US marines then attack Brown and his followers. 10 men were killed, and 6- including Brown- were caputrued at the end of the fight.

The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 15, 1865, in Penn Quarter, Washington, D.C. He was killed as the Civil War was coming to an end. Lincoln was the first American president to be assassinated, although someone attempted to assassinate Andrew Jackson 30 years earlier. -

WWI was the first war to engage the entire European continent since Napoleon was defeated in 1815. WWI involved over 70 million combatants and ended with nine to 12 million deaths. -
Stock Market Crash of 1929
Stock market prices declinded in value on Oct. 23, 1929. The next day was called "Black Thursday" and a record 12.9 million shares were traded. This caused the prices to go down even more. This was the beginging to the decade long Great Depression. -
The First Apperance of Superman in Action Comics
Superman first appeared in action comics in 1938. DC comics is the company that published Superman. Superman was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, who were in highschool when they created him. -
Japan's Attack on Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor was a suprise attack from the Imperial Japanese Navy against the US. They attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Afterwards, the US entered World War II. -
The Dropping of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima
In 1945, an American B-29 Superfortress bomber took off from Tinian Island for Hiroshima. Hiroshima was Japan's 8th largest city. Upon arriving, the US dropped a 10,000 pound atomic bomb, which killed 80,000 people. Later, another bomb was dropped and Japan formally surrendered on September 2, 1945. -

First Inauguration of John F. Kennedy
John F. Kennedy was the 35th US president. He was also the youngest man and first Roman Catholic ever to be elected president. He was assasinated in November of 1963. -
The First Appearance of Spider-Man in Comics
Spider-Man first appeared in "Amazing Fantasy," published by Marvel Comics. He was created by writer/editor Stan Lee and writer/artist Steve Ditko. In 2011, Spider-Man placed 3rd on IGN's Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time. -
The March On Washington
On this day, many people gathered together on Washington street. They were there to gain rights for African-Americans. Also on this day, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous, "I Have a Dream Speech," which lasted about 16 minutes and promted the government to give African-Americans equal rights. -
First Super Bowl between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs
The Super Bowl was first held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, CA.The Green Bay Packers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the football game. The score was 35-10. This was the only Super Bowl that did not sellout. -
The First Inuguration of Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan was inugurated as the 40th president of the United States. It was the start of his first 4-year term. The ceremony was held on the East Front of the US capitol building. -
The Explosion of the Challenger Space Shuttle
The Challenger Space Shuttle exploded 73 seconds into its take-off. There were 7 crew members on board, all of which died in the explosion. The explosion was caused because of a failure in the "O rings," that were supposed to prevent hot gases from leaking through the joints of the rocket booster. -

9/11
A terrorist group hijacked four US airplanes on 9/11/01. Two planes flew them into the World Trade Center towers. Ones of the other planes landed in a PA field and the other hit the Pentagon military headquarters. -

Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii. On Octobor 9th, 2009, Obama received the announcement that he had won the prestgious Nobel Peace Prize. Obama was also the first African-American president. -
Important Event From My Life
On Friday, August 30th, we had auditions for my dance studio's competition team. Last Friday, the 6th, I found out that I got on the competition team. I was really excited because I took a lot of dance classes over the summer for the competition team and I was really hoping to get on the team.
