Zimmerman Note
Woodrow Wilson had declared neutrality at the beginning of World War I. London intercepted a note heading from Germany to Mexico. The note stated that if they joined Germany, they would help Mexico get the territory back they lost during the Mexican-American War. The Fourteen Points
an address delivered before a joint meeting of Congress. Wilson outlined his vision for a stable, long-lasting peace in Europe, the Americas and the rest of the world following World War I. Several points addressed specific territorial issues in Europe, but the most significant sections set the tone for postwar American diplomacy. -
The Great Depression
a precipitous drop in the value of the U.S. stock market sent the economy spiraling downward. Banks and businesses failed across the country. Nationwide unemployment rates rose from 3 percent in 1929 to 23 percent in 1932. Many people lost their jobs, homes and savings. Many were also forced to wait in food lines and live in shiny towns called Hoovervilles. -
JFK's Assassination
The president and his wife landed in Dallas. The day before, he had spoken in San Antonio, Austin and Fort Worth. From the airfield, they then traveled in a motorcade to the Dallas Trade Mart. Shortly after 12:30 p.m., as the motorcade was passing through downtown Dallas, shots rang out. Kennedy was struck twice, once in the neck and second head. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a nearby hospital.

The Watergate Scandal
Operatives associated with president Nixon's campaign broke into the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C. Several members of his administration had knowledge of the burglary. Nixon denied any involvement. Secret tapes of White House conversations later revealed that the president had participated in efforts to cover up the criminal activity. He resigned in 1974.

9/11
Series of attacks on the United States coordinated by terrorist. Three attacks were organized. One on the World Trade Center in New York, one to the Pentagon, and the last one for the White House but the plan crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. This event caused the United States to go to war against Al-Qaeda.
